Banksy & David Choe’s Films to Screen in U.S.

Street art lovers will be happy to hear that two pretty awesome films “Dirty Hands” and “Exit Through The Gift Shop” from David Choe (featured) and Banksy respectively will be opening in select cities in the United States. Although not a general release as of yet, this might be our best chance stateside (at least in major metropolitan areas) to get a look at these documentary/films. “Exit Through The Gift Shop” will be showing in LA, NY, and SF starting on April 16th and hopefully […]

Sketchbook: Banksy

Last summer, AM flew out to the UK and took a road trip up to Bristol to visit Banksy’s exhibition at the Bristol Museum. As we mentioned, Banksy made an installation that replicated his studio and in that brilliant space, we realized that he had numerous pages from his sketchbook. Between chuckles, we zoomed in to take detail pictures of each one. From “No Ball Games” to “NOLA” to more that we’ve yet to see used, this edition of our sketchbook feature gives us a […]

Update: Banksy vs. Robbo

Based on pictures from Robbo and his crew, it looks like they have gone and modified more Banksy pieces, warping their meanings. If you remember this all started in Camden with a stencil Banksy put up over a vintage Robbo tag, with the ensuing retaliation (here & here) from Robbo. Not sure how long the graffiti artists plans to continue defacing pieces from Banksy, but it seems a little much now… More images after the jump…

Video: Banksy – “Lights, Camera, Banksy” Stencil & Interview

Readers of the The Sunday Times in the UK were greeted with a six-page spread on Banksy including a question and answer session with the stealthy street artist. The interview ended up being quite insightful despite the fact that he talks in his usual tongue-in-cheek manner about museums, CCTV, his reasons for anonymity, his hypocrisy, his family, his art background, his collection, and sure to disappoint fans everywhere, he says – “I won’t be doing any more big gallery shows for a while, it’s all […]

Banksy – “Exit Through the Gift Shop” Lambeth Palace Special Screening

After screening at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, Banksy’s “Exit Through the Gift Shop” documentary premiered in the UK at a some special screenings early this week in a tunnel underneath the Waterloo train station dubbed “Lambeth Palace.” Of course, anything the famous street artist puts on is not a simple affair.  The evening came complete with multiple installations like a red carpet painted on the street, his “Paranoid Pictures” logo, the animatronics from his “Village Store and Charcoal Grill” pop up show, as […]

If you have been reading AM this week, you may remember our recent review of the Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Philip de Pury auctions. Photographer extraordinaire, s.butterfly, had some time to visit the auction sites for Sotheby’s and Christie’s to take some pics of some choice items that may be of some interest you like the Banksy’s seen above. More images after the jump…

Sotheby’s Contemporary Evening and Day Art Auctions

Christie’s and Phillips de Pury have proven to have strong works available at their forthcoming auctions (check out our previews here and here). AM now examines Sotheby’s Contemporary Evening and Day Art Sales (February 10 – 11), which contain great pieces by some of our favorite artists, such as Feng Zhengjie, Yoshitomo Nara and Andy Warhol (above). We are happy to report that several of our favorite lots, included those by Frank Auerbach, Lucio Fontana and Andy Warhol, performed well, either within or above estimate, in the evening sale […]

Preview: Phillips de Pury Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales

AM continues its coverage of the London February Auctions (see our Christie’s preview) with a look at Phillips de Pury’s Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales (February 12 – 13 2010). Overall, there are fewer outstanding pieces available here than at Christie’s or Sotheby’s, however there are still many fantastic, iconic pieces up for grabs, including several Basquiats, a strong Banksy, an early Kaws set, and a fabulous Ai Weiwei triptych (above). Take a look after the jump…

First up, we show you the best of Christie’s Post War and Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales (February 11-12), including interesting works by Hernan Bas, Banksy, Zhang Huan, Terence Koh, Barry McGee, Richard Prince (above), Yoshitomo Nara, […]

Banksy Roundup

We’ve put together a little roundup of recent Banksy news that will hopefully tie up some loose ends.  In the video above, you will see a message from Mr. B – read to the audience before the screening of his documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” at the Sundance Film Festival. We wish we could have been there, but there are a couple reviews out so far (here & here).  Also, for lucky fans in the UK, it looks like there are already some tickets […]
