Rewind: Dec 23 – Mar 7

It’s been a while since our last Rewind feature so it’s time we introduce some videos to you. You may remember last month when we shared the #WithSyria campaign that launched on March 13, the third year anniversary of the conflict and resulting death & destruction in the country. If you remember, Banksy lent his famous “Girl With Red Balloon” iamge to the cause, but there was also a video produced that can be seen below as well as on the #WithSyria website. Other worthy […]

Releases: BNE x Banksy (Artists 4 Water)

After recently releasing limited edition t-shirts in collaboration with Space Invader, Faile and Shepard Fairey, BNE is continuing the Artists 4 Water effort with another major artist. On World Water Day, Saturday, March 22 at 12 Noon PST, there will apparently be a collaborative release from Banksy (although no official confirmation yet) on BNE.org. Also at the same time, an original piece from Shep (seen below) will be available with 100% of the sale price donated to their campaign. Funds will be raised for Charity: Water, a “New York based non-profit […]

Banksy For The #WithSyria Campaign

Elusive British artist Banksy is back in the spotlight again with another worthy cause. After recently donating the original Heart Balloon for charity, and raising $650,000 for Haiti (covered), Bristol’s most popular man of mystery is at it again by contributing to #WithSyria project. For this project the artist revised one of his most famous and evolved images – Balloon Girl aka Girl With Red Balloon.  The new “version” with a little girl wearing traditional Syrian clothes was added to his official website the other day – Banksy.co.uk, along […]

Banksy’s “Heart Balloon” Sells for $650K to Coldplay’s Martin

One of the iconic images from Banksy’s historic artist residency on the streets of New York last year was the so called Heart Balloon (later jacked and displayed during Basel Week Miami). A variation on this piece as seen recently as a print for sale on Paddle8, but it has made a more high profile appearance over that weekend in the form of an original on wood that sold at Sean Penn’s Help Haiti Home Gala in Beverly Hills. Bought by Chris Martin from Coldplay with proceeds […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Art Miami & CONTEXT

As we continue our survey of Art Basel Week in Miami, we turn our eyes to Art Miami and its sister fair CONTEXT. The combined exhibition space of the two events featured over 190 galleries and covered over 200,000 square feet. Strolling through the booths, we found artist new and old that drew our attention. As with last year, there was the controversial display of un-authenticated work purported to be from Banksy presumably from his recent art residency in New York. Enjoy more of our photos below… Discuss Art […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Final Days

Since we last mentioned Banksy’s ongoing art residency in the Big Apple, he’s since created a piece near Yankee Stadium (seen below) and painted over an existing piece in a thrift shop for charity (also seen below). And now, earlier today, he brought the historic Better Out Than In to a close with his take (seen above) on the bubble tags made famous by vandals in New York. The inflatable throw-up was seen on the Long Island Expressway near Queens. Discuss Banksy here.

Streets: World Roundup (Oct 21 – Oct 27)

This week’s Streets World Roundup is headlined by the latest piece from Banksy during his month long artist residency on the streets of New York. Painted on Day 28 of the project, this wall in Coney Island muses on what a robot would paint if he was to do graffiti. Take a look at other murals you may have missed from Mr. B earlier in the month here. Other notable walls come from ABOVE – Canada, Mark Jenkins – Germany, Mark Dean Veca – Los […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 19, 20, 21

After we visited his literal outdoor gallery installation last Friday, Banksy continued his assault on the streets of New York over the weekend. Adding a video in Staten Island (below) that completed his tour of all five boroughs, Mr. B also created a clever strength tester stencil piece (below) utilizing existing elements, and a new one in South Bronx to start your Monday off (above). Discuss Banksy here.

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 18

Today, Banksy took his artist residency in New York straight to the hornet’s nest (aka Chelsea). Yes, the same Chelsea that houses some of the world’s most prestigious galleries. Keeping to the theme, Banksy put on display the canvases created in his most recent collaboration with his peers from the southern hemisphere, Os Gemeos, for the The Village Voice. Banksy changed things up to keep with the theme for today’s display and kept things orderly with the help of some security guards to regulate the number of […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

For those who were busy over the weekend, here is a summary of the latest Banksy pieces for his Better Out Than In art residency in New York. In addition to street stencils, Mr. B also blessed the Big Apple with more “performance art” with a truck filled with animated stuffed animals heading for the slaughter house (see video below). And, in an unexpected twist, Banksy sold original signed canvases in Central Park for only $60 with  all of the purchases likely going to people who didn’t even […]
