Streets: Blu & Ericailcane (Palestra)

Although we didn’t see any of his work in the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA last week (probably related to the controversial buffing of his mural), most people still consider Blu one of the most important street artists at the moment. In fact, both him and fellow Italian artist Ericailcane (who recently collaborated on a mural in Bologna) are some of our favorites out there and they reaffirm our love for their work with this recent mural they are working on in […]

Streets: Blu & Ericailcane (Bologna)

No stranger to collaborations (see Nuart), not to mention both being automatic invites to any serious street art event, Blu and Ericailcane have teamed up for another piece – this time in Bologna. We should see more from these two Italian artists as the weather heats up and outdoor painting season starts again. Discuss Blu here. Discuss Ericailcane here.

Releases: Blu – 2010 DVD

Fans of Blu’s fantastic graff-animations – Muto, Combo (collaboration with David Ellis), and Big Bag Big Boom – now have a way to own some of the footage.  The prolific street artist has released his first ever DVD, signed and numbered with an edition of 100, covering videos he has made during the last 10 years. The price is €30.00 and it is available here.

Streets: Blu for Los Angeles MOCA (Buffed)

If you blinked, you would have missed Blu’s newest mural in Los Angeles. Invited to by the MOCA to paint a wall ahead of it’s highly anticipated “Art in the Streets” exhibition in April, the museum apparently had forgotten that the Italian street sensation made his name making pointed political statements with his large-scale work, often site-specific and aimed directly at the local governments and/or corporations. With the piece facing a Veterans Administration building, the museum (with or without Deitch) decided to buff over the […]

Streets: Blu (France)

Another masterpiece from Blu went up in Rennes recently with the artist painting a creature made from our unwanted and discarded trash. Perhaps like the Tin Man in “The Wizard of Oz”, it seems to have found a heart for itself. Take a closer look after the jump…

Releases: “Trespass: A History Of Uncommissioned Urban Art”

Recently, AM attended the VIP preview of Tachen’s latest art book: Trespass: A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art. Written by Carlo McCormick, curated by our friends Marc & Sara Schiller at the Wooster Collective, and edited by Ethel Seno, this behemoth houses tons of pictures documenting graffiti and other forms of unsanctioned art all around the globe. It features works from 150 artists including AM favorites such as Keith Haring, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Faile, Ron English and Blu. From the moments the doors opened, there was […]

Openings / Streets: FAME Festival 2010

For the last two years, there’s only one place even the most half-hearted of street art fan should be in September and that’s the picturesque town of Grottaglie, in the foot of Italy, and this year is no exception as the town again provides the canvas for curator Angelo Milano’s FAME Festival. As with previous years, Angelo has invited a stylistically and geographically diverse selection of renowned and, at least for now, less recognized artists to decorate the walls of his hometown as they see […]

BLK River Festival ’10: Blu

To round out the images that caught our eye at this year’s BLK River Festival (also see Know Hope and Sam3), we bring you this waterside piece from Italian superstar Blu. Although not as complex as some of his recent pieces, the message is no less clear. Unlock your eyes and minds and check out more images of this pieces after the jump…

Streets: Blu in Madrid

Blu’s amazing largescale works are now expected to be amazing whenever we hear of something new from the Italian street artist. What we really need now is a big solo show for him to see how his works translate in the gallery setting – hopefully we’ll get to see something like that from him soon. Here is his latest piece (in Madrid), again taking aim of one of his favorite targets – the corporate fat cats. A closer look after the jump…

Nuart ’10: Blu & Ericailcane

It looks like this year’s Nuart Festival is finally underway in Norway. Blu continues his collaborations with big names, this time with Bologna based Ericailcane on the same building. Together, they take aim like other artists (Os Gemeos, Todd Schorr) at an easy target – the massive oil spill by BP in the Gulf of Mexico. Ironically, Stavanger is currently hosting ONS, one of the world’s largest oil and energy industry conferences. Keep it locked on AM as Vhils, ROA, Dolk, Evol, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Sten […]
