Auction Results: “Urban Art” @ Bonhams 1/11/11

If today’s Urban Art auction at Bonhams can be seen as an indicator for the overall health of the Urban/Street Art market,  then things are looking absolutely strong, exciting, and prosperous.  Most lots found buyers and all the major pieces in the sale found new owners. Auctions: “Vision 21” @ Bonhams London

AM continues to look at the upcoming auctions with a review of the July 1st Vision 21 auction at Bonhams in London. Generally a grab bag of post war and contemporary art and design items, the auction is of particular interest to us this season as Bonhams has stuck a small selection of “Urban Art” in the back of the catalog. Last night, AM had the opportunity to attend a very special event held by Bonhams LA. A unique panel of speakers from different corners of the Urban art genre gathered to discuss the state of the Urban art market and the economics/dynamics of today’s art marketplace. On Wednesday Nov. 5th, Bonhams (Los Angeles) will be holding a very special panel to discuss the Contemporary Urban art market. This panel will include Shepard Fairey (artist), Charming Baker (artist), Jon Reis (Filmmaker), Shana Nys Dambrot (Art Critic/Editor), and Cindy Cronk (Modern Art auction house specialist). The panel will moderated by none other than Seth Carmichael of the Carmichael Gallery.
