Releases: Mark Dean Veca – “20 Years” Book

LA based artist Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) recently released a new book 20 Years Works through Zero+ Publishing. Along with the book release the artist opened a solo show at Western Project on September 7th, presenting a selection of works from the new hardcover book, and the official book launch and signing is scheduled for September 14, at 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the same venue. Releases: Tauba Auerbach – “STAB/GHOST”

For those of you who haven’t seen the beautiful handcrafted STAB/GHOST book by artist Tauba Auerbach, here is a closer look. Released through Three Star Books, the translucent limited edition comprises of “clear plastic pages, silkscreened with patterns, sewn with lanyards of plastic thread, and mounted on a specially designed light table.” Produced in an edition of 10, the piece which also functions as a light sculpture, is a testament to Auerbach’s well-known interest in color theory and complex geometries. Release: Nathan Ota – “Ikiru”

It looks like Nathan Ota’s new book Ikiru is up for preorder now from ZERO+ Publishing. The 144 page hardcover covers the LA-based artist’s work from his early street art to illustrations and gallery pieces to recent collaborations with the street artist RISK. Signings: Mark Ryden – “The GAY 90s & Pinxit” @ PK Shop

At the beginning of the month, AM paid the PK Shop a visit to attend the signing of two monographs from Mark Ryden. The newer of the two, The Gay 90s, published by Rizzoli, illustrates the works included Ryden’s 2010 exhibition The Gay 90s: Old Thyme Art Show at Paul Kasmin Gallery (covered) while Pinxit by Taschen is a more comprehensive overview of the low brow luminary’s paintings organized by the themes of his major exhibitions. Preview / Giveaway: Nils Müller “Vandals” Book Release

German photographer Nils Müller recently published his second book titled Vandals with the official release on the May 1st, which will be followed by a gallery show at Ruttkowski68 (Cologne, Germany) opening on May 24th. Similar to his last book Blütezeit, published back in 2008, this latest volume covers the rarely exposed lives of urban vandals, and is released in regular and limited edition (limited to 500 signed copies now available for pre-order). Tomorrow, June 9th (from 1-4 PM), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be at the Gallery 1988 (Melrose location) signing his new book Bearing The Unbearable. Covering work from 2003-2009, the monograph is the first major publication from the LA-based artist known for his dark and humorous imagery featuring his cartoon-like characters including his infamous bear.
