Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá recently opened his latest show at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. Entitled IN MEIA RES, this fresh body of work is a reflection on the artist’s life. José Parlá – “Gesture Performing Dance, Dance Performing Gesture” @ BAM

Last week, AM attended the much anticipated unveiling of José Parlá’s new work – Gesture Performing Dance, Dance Performing Gesture – at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). José had the honor of being the first artist commissioned to create public art for BAM’s new Richard B. Fisher building. This magnificent painting, which measures 37 x 7 feet, took the artist four months to complete. The christening event was also accompanied by a mini showcase of Parlá’s paper based mono-tranfers and rag installations similar to what he put forth […]

Entitled “Walls, Diaries and Paintings”, the show (previewed) filled the entire gallery space with José’s calligraphic style. Utilizing the techniques and reference photos which he has accumulated over the years on his travels, Parlá created a […]

Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá, who stopped the show with one of his magnificent street-inspired calligraphic works at OHWOW’s It Ain’t Fair exhibit (covered) during Art Basel Week last month, will be unveiling a new publication next month, entitled Walls, Diaries, and Paintings. Released to coincide with his exhibition by the same name at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery next month, a quick encore of sorts to his showing there last June (covered), presumably follows in a long line of wonderfully produced show catalogs dating back to his […]
