Candice Tripp & Giles Walker – “I’M NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN!” @ Black Rat Projects

Painter Candice Tripp (interviewed) and Giles Walker (known for his immersive robotic installations) have a collaborative show with a public opening scheduled this Saturday (November 30) at Black Rat Projects. IʼM NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN will include individual works from the two artists like the Tripp paintings seen here as well as several collaborative installations (hinted at in the photo directly below). Based on the prior works from the two, the intersection of their worlds promises to be dark and beautiful at the same time. Discuss Candice Tripp here.

For those of you who couldn’t make it out to check out Into The Dark, a group exhibition in Newcastle’s Victoria Tunnel presented by Unit 44, here are some photos to give you an idea of what the experience was like. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Showing: Candice Tripp – “Petit Mal @ Black Rat Gallery

Last month, London was treated to a new solo showing from Candice Tripp (interviewed) at Black Rat Projects entitled Petit Mal. The new paintings are some of her best and darkest yet, featuring her masked adolescents participating in bizarre scenarios as if from a bad nightmare. This horror-infused imagery is further enhanced with a layer of awkward social interaction from the subjects leading one to wonder what more there is to the story that can only seen through the lens of a moment in time captured by the painting. Rounding out […]

Preview: Candice Tripp – “Petit Mal” @ Black Rat Gallery

Opening this Friday (July 26th), Petit Mal is a solo show from Candice Tripp (interviewed) at Black Rat Projects, with whom she released a print earlier this year if you remember. We’ve been looking for a large body of work from the UK-based painter ever since her show at Joshua Liner, and the new work does not disappoint. Thematically based on her thoughts of the “petit mal” seizures sometimes seen in children, her paintings are indeed what one may imagine could be seen during the brief interruptions of consciousness […]
