Bringing life to a row of twelve empty storefronts in New York, theÂ â€œWilloughby Windowsâ€ (previewed) community beautification project presented byÂ Ad Hoc Art in conjunction with the MetroTech Business Improvement District, was a success by all accounts. The storefronts, located at 89 to 106 Willoughby Street in Brooklyn, included participation fromÂ artists Chris Stain,Â Ellis G. Two of the most original voices working in street and gallery settings today, Chris Stain and Armsrock, have what looks to be an outstanding show coming up at Ad Hoc Art this Friday, August 7th. Both artists capture moments of hope and dignity in urban life without romanticizing the challenges and despair. Twelve different storefronts from 89 to 106 Willoughby Street in Brooklyn are being transformed by over fifteen artists as part of the “Willoughby Windows” project. Presented by Ad Hoc Art in conjunction with the MetroTech Business Improvement District, the exhibition showcases the beautification project in place to bring life to the twelve empty storefronts on this block. This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw. Utilizing an intricate stenciling process, Logan was able to create scenic snapshots of some of the coolest urban landscapes we’ve seen from a stencil artist. AM checked out Baltimore street artist Chris Stain’s solo exhibition, “Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons,” (previewed) at the Carmichael Gallery. Stain absolutely knocked one out of the park with his transformation of the front gallery space into a New York City rooftop scene, which featured an amazing gargantuan-sized mural on one of the gallery’s walls. Baltimore street artist Chris Stain makes his West coast solo exhibition debut with, “Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons,” opening this Thursday, February 5th @ 7pm at the Carmichael Gallery.
