Last month, Circleculture Gallery served as ground zero for Katrin Fridriks newest body of work. Entitled Leak of Information (previewed), the Icelandic-born, Paris-based artist unleashed her abstract mania on Berlin in striking fashion. An impressive series of monochromatic works supplemented her more conventional color rich pieces, which first made waves on the scene a London group show, The Future Tense (covered), last year. Last we saw Katrin Fridriks’ work, she stole a London group show (covered) with her signature abstract color explosions. It now appears she has muted the palette, akin to one of the works exhibited prior, presenting a selection of monochromatic works composed in her uniquely organic fashion. Opening Thursday, April 28th at Circleculture Gallery in Berlin, the Icelandic born Paris-based artist will be targeting the ubiquitous technological underpinnings of modern society with her departure to more metallic color tones – silver, gold, steel, cooper, aluminum. It’s always interesting to see how an artist views themselves, especially in the context of their own art. “Self Portraits” (previewed) which opened recently in Berlin at Circle Culture Gallery is based exactly on this concept. AM was lucky enough to get an advance look at what will surely be the most sought after pieces at “Self-Portraits,” Circle Culture Gallery’s latest offering opening tomorrow, Friday, June 5th in Berlin. Seen above is JR’s “Self-Portrait in a Woman’s Eye, Kenya” from the 28 Millimetres series and is a brilliant use of a subject to capture an image of himself. The idea for the show was to approach the historical theme of self-portraits and to bring it into a contemporary art context. See [...]
