This last weekend, the hauntingly beautiful Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia Contemporary closed its two week run. Natural Selection featured a new body of work from the San Diego-based artist, rendered expertly as usual and steeped with an air of mystery. Continuing his collaboration with Case Studyo, Josh Sperling is set to release a new edition featuring his signature geometric forms. Entitled Friend, the fiberglass mirror topped with the New York-based artist’s sinuous curves will be limited to 60 each of the blue and red variants. A couple weekends ago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (with support from Library Street Collective) opened a new show from art superstar KAWS. Entitled ALONE AGAIN, the exhibition features five large scale companion sculptures and three paintings displayed on a special mural painted by the Brooklyn-based artist. A couple weeks ago, Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York opened up a solo show from Jose Parla entitled Anonymous Vernacular. One of the things that stands out to us about the Cuban-American artist’s work are the rich textures and complex layers he creates in each of his pieces, a collage of oil paints, graffiti inspired scrawl, acrylic finishes, and torn advertisments.
