Last weekend in Long Beach, the third edition of ComplexCon (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in sneakerheads, art enthusiasts, creatives, and tastemakers to an event billed to bring together “pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, innovation, activism, and education.” Dominating the event was Takashi Murakami, who once again helped design the brand identity and released some of the most sought after collectibles for this year’s festival. Last weekend in Copenhagen, Eighteen Gallery hosted the the opening of another great show – Geoff McFetridge’s Coming Back Is Half The Trip. The Los Angeles-based illustrator, designer and artist’s instantly recognizable distillation of the human form into basic shapes and colors once again takes center stage for this exhibition, work that takes inspiration from daily routines and patterns. Tonight at the Arsham/Fieg Gallery inside KITH’s SoHo store in New York City, Jean Jullien will be presenting a solo with an interesting concept. For this showing, the celebrated French graphic designer and illustrator will be displaying miniature paintings alongside appropriately sized sculptures and 3D models of Daniel Arsham and Ronnie Fieg leading to an optical illusion, especially when seen in photos. GIB which is “BIG” spelled backwards, will be on display through November 18. Via Hypebeast.

Following up on his previous collaboration (covered) with Uniqlo x Sesame Street, KAWS will be releasing a more extensive collection featuring the iconic cast of characters from the popular children’s show on November 19th. Entitled Utopia, the 7 color screenprint will have a run of 115, measure 19 x 22 inches, come signed, numbered, stamped and feature one his collage-like structures inspired by his time spent with the textures and colors of the Central California. Tonight (October 25th) in New York, Joshua Liner Gallery will be opening their second solo show with Andrew Schoultz. Full Circle includes works on paper, paintings, and new mixed media American flags set against a backdrop of a hand painted transformed space. Using familiar motifs like colorful concentric circles, the all seeing eye, brick structures, clouds, serpents, castles, and the aforementioned flag, the Los Angeles-based artist continues to weave a troubling and timely commentary on the social-political climate and the economics of globalism & capitalism. We first noticed the works of Lu Pingyuan at this year’s Art Basel HK (covered), where he successfully introduced his Look! I’m Picasso! body of work. Half a year later, the Chinese artist has created a limited edition figure of one of the characters from the series, which will be available soon. The entire series was inspired by a single scene from the Toy Story movie in which Mr. Potatohead ends up with his features all twisted and says “Look!
