Banksy – “In the Event of a Divorce Cut Here” @ Christie’s “Dennis Hopper” Auction

Near the end of 2010, AM attended the afternoon session of Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary auction (full results here.) This field trip was special in many ways for us. First, it served as the estate sale of legendary actor/collector Dennis Hopper’s impressive art collection with a chance for us to see many of the famous works he collected as we were shown in a video tour of his residence created before his passing. The second was to get a chance to bid on a unique variation of […]

Odili Donald Odita – “Body and Space” @ Jack Shainman Gallery

AM recently dropped by Jack Shainman Gallery in Chelsea to check out Odili Donald Odita’s latest exhibition Body and Space. The artist of Nigerian descent gave us a lesson in color and geometric layouts while utilizing a diverse and bold color palette. Odili engaged viewers with the question of “what color means to them” and had us going from the moment we set foot in the gallery space. Check it all out after the jump.

Teaser: George Condo – “Mental States” @ New Museum

George Condo, who saw plenty of action down at Art Basel Miami this year, will be one of highlights for the first month of the new year when his almost 30 year retrospective opens at the New Museum on January 26th.  Lucky New Yorkers will witness the first major US survey of over eighty paintings and sculptures arranged in close association with the artist into different “states of mind” groupings of works. For fans old and new of the American artist, who has garnered some […]

Update: Joe Sorren

Even though his epic exhibition Interruption at the GCAC (covered) is still showing, Joe Sorren (featured) is already back to work doing what he does best – painting.  This new commission piece that he recently finished is a piece for a friend and fellow band member. We look forward to seeing what is in store for Joe in 2011 including an animation project and a show in Italy at Dorothy Circus in October. Discuss Joe Sorren here.

Openings: “Postermat” @ The Hole Gallery

AM recently attended The Hole Gallery’s latest show Postermat. The group exhibition was a little different than the typical group show because they went all retro with it. Imagine going back to your childhood and rummaging through mall shops for your favorite posters of sports, rockbands, singers or even comic books – almost everyone had a cheap but cool poster that was maybe mass produced, but meant the world to us. In the same spirit, the good folks at the Hole and Levi’s, got together […]
