The Vader Project Auction Preview

When The Vader Project rolls into Los Angeles tonight, June 11th, it will be at the end of a long four year journey. The 100 iconic helmets, customized by many artists sure to be familiar to our readers, will be on display in Hollywood (6812 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles CA 90036) before they are auctioned off in Philadelphia at a Freeman’s auction. Also of interest to those in LA will be the the catalog available for sale and the signing event the following day, June […]

Showing / Giveaway: Kai & Sunny – “Return To The Wild” @ Stolenspace

AM stopped by StolenSpace this weekend to check out their latest exhibition, Kai & Sunny’s “Return to the Wild”. The show contains large scale one-off and small edition prints by the duo, with a cohesive colour palette and fantastic nature inspired subject matter and motifs used throughout. Alongside the wall pieces are four floor standing tee-pee lights with silkscreened covers stretched over bamboo frames. These pieces of functional art provide a welcoming glow to the entrance of the gallery, and were first seen in a […]

Openings: Antony Micallef & Conor Harrington @ Lazarides (Beverly Hills)

Two artists from across the pond who are not strangers to Los Angeles – Conor Harrington (interviewed), who had a show with Chloe Early at Kinsey/DesForges last year, and Antony Micallef (interviewed), who had a pop-up show with Lazarides almost 3 years ago – unveiled their newest body of work to a thrilled opening night crowd at Eurotrash at the Lazarides LA gallery. Of the four artists (also including Vhils & JR), who participated in the group exhibition, Micallef’s work stood out the most. Unlike […]

On Tour: Mark Warren Jacques & Seth Neefus – “Free Life Centre”

Free Life Centre is a touring art installation and performance space conceived and constructed by artists Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed) and Seth Neefus. Last year, the friends and co-owners of Together Gallery (along with fellow artists Timothy Karpinski and David Wien), decided to put out a call for funding for the project, which was answered by friends and supporters. Now, the show is ready to go on the road, with a send–off party last week in Portland ahead of the first stop in Seattle, Wa. […]

Interviews: Brett Amory

Brett Amory is an artist living and working in San Francisco. Amory graduated from the Academy of Arts in 2005 and has been showing his work all over the country since graduating. Amory first made his mark with the release of “Convergence”, a book that came out in 2006 that he put out with some friends whose names you may recognize (Mars-1, David Choong Lee, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon, and Nome Edona). We sat down with him for an interview ahead of his show opening […]

Openings: Vhils & JR @ Lazarides (Beverly Hills)

Last night, AM stopped by the spacious Lazarides popup gallery in Beverly Hills to take in the four-person show of Vhils, JR, Conor Harrington (interviewed), and Micallef (interviewed). Dubbed “Eurotrash,” the impressive grouping had ample room to each bring a full body of work for all to enjoy. We’ll start our coverage off by focusing in on Vhils and JR, who also collaborated on some street pieces in the week leading up to the opening. Portugal-based artist Vhils reprised his popular chiseled walls by bringing them […]

Openings: LeBasse Projects (Culver City Artwalk)

The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event. His colorful paintings of imaginary landscapes drew us in with their dream-like vibrancy and fancy. More pics after the jump…

Culver City Artwalk ’10: “Picks of the Harvest” @ Thinkspace

On right now at the Culver City Arts District is their annual Artwalk. After bringing you a look at what LeBasse Projects and Carmichael Gallery had to offer, we now turn our eye on another great gallery – Thinkspace. Heading their show is master manipulator of pop culture and satirist, David MacDowell. You can’t help but smile when you see the skill in which David takes familiar elements and remixes them into a clever and unexpected composition – like Golem heading over to “Booger King” […]
