Openings: “The New Grand Tour” @ Bryce Wolkowitz

Last night, AM attended the opening of “The New Grand Tour” at the fresh gallery space of Bryce Wolkowitz (previewed). With a lineup of Deanne Cheuk, Jose Parla, Rey Parla, Davi Russo, Romon Kimin Yang (Rostarr) and Suitman a.k.a. Young Kim, it was not hard to see why the Chelsea space was packed to the brim with art lovers. Many industry peers such as Ryan McGinness, KAWS, Eric Haze, Sandra Gering, Cristina Grajales and Akino Kondoh were also in attendance. One of our favorite pieces was a supersized […]

Update: Jeff Soto – “Life Cycle” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

AM stopped by yesterday to visit with Jeff Soto (interviewed) to find out more about his upcoming show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery later this month (June 26th). Although we are big fans of this work already, we were still very impressed by this new body of work, especially the level of detail and depth that Jeff decided to add to this new batch of paintings. We’ll be bringing you the full studio visit with some more teaser shots soon, but believe us when we say this […]

Streets: Ron English in Italy

It looks like pop art master, Ron English (featured), has been hard at work in Italy working on some murals. Here we see him painting his classic “Guernica” remix in Rome, but this time with a skeletal twist. He also hit up Milan with a Elvis double-vision piece (seen after the jump).

LACMA Acquires Gursky Ocean Photographs

According to the New York Times, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has acquired four Andreas Gursky photographs from the artist’s Gagosian Gallery exhibition, which we covered here.  It is unknown how much it paid, but the photographs, based on existing satellite imagery, carried the asking price of $680,000 apiece. LACMA received the funds from an anonymous source and from Steven F. Roth, executive vice president of the World Oil Corporation. The timely acquisition is of particular relevance and urgency given the current oil […]

Preview: Timothy Karpinski @ Flat Color Gallery, Seattle

We’re big fans of the folk-art inspired work of Timothy Karpinski here at AM, and the mixed media artist and paper-cut technician will be showing off his skills with some new wares at a new solo show opening this evening in Seattle at Flatcolor Gallery. “This Feels Right” seems an apt title for the exhibition as Karpinski is one of the free-thinking co-owners of the Together Gallery in Portland, one of the great creative led community-vibe driven galleries out in that region. There will be […]

Preview / Studio Visits: Jonathan Darby @ Lebasse Projects, Culver City Artwalk

We saw that rising UK star Jonathan Darby posted some images on his blog from his studio of some new work in progress as he prepares for a showing with Lebasse Projects as part of the annual Culver City Artwalk, so we thought we’d ask him for a few more. Each body of work we see from Jonathan shows a progression and judging by the paint splatters on the studio walls and ceiling, it looks like he has been getting down and dirty to make some […]

Check out the pics of the final production car along with a cool video documenting the creation of this car with Koons and BMW […]

Christopher Wool @ Gagosian Gallery (Rome)

It’s been a while since we’ve covered anything in Rome, but today that changes. Gagosian Gallery brings one of today’s most important artists to the historic city with eight new paintings by Christopher Wool. The silkscreen and enamel large works on linen feature Wool’s signature gestures and technique. On top of the silkscreen foundation, Wool employs stenciling, rolling, dripping, dragging, and spray-painting. Each painting is heavily worked on by the artist, with erasures, over-painting, and reproduction part of the intense process. The result are spectacular […]
