Openings: “Pop Life” @ Tate Modern

Last week, Tate Modern opened the doors to a highly anticipated group show based on Andy Warhol’s famous quote: good business is the best art. An ensemble made up of the top names in the contemporary art scene such as Tracey Emin, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Martin Kippenberger, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Gavin Turk, Richard Prince, and Cosey Fanni Tutti are included in this “Pop Life” exhibition (teased) and many were on hand for the opening reception. Openings: Scott Campbell – “Always Almost There” @ Lazarides

Tattoo and now contemporary artist, Scott Campbell, opened his show at the Shop at Lazarides recently. “Always Almost There” once again highlights the laser etched technique that Campbell is famous for using stacks of dollar bills. His three dimensional works are wonderfully textured and complex, maybe because they are cut layer by later and then glued together. This is his first major exhibition in Europe and his debut show in London. Check out more images after the jump…

Baby Tattooville 09: Orientation Dinner and “Duets”

Today will mark the official start of Baby Tattooville (BT), but the artists all arrived last night at the resort. All meticulously planned events of this scale requires an orientation and AM was honored have the opportunity to treat the artist team to dinner as they prepped for their big weekend at BT. Openings: Angelika Trojnarski – “After the Gold Rush” @ Kinsey/Desforges

We stopped by the Kinsey/Desforges Gallery in Culver City a couple weeks ago on a night of chock full of openings. On the walls were new works from Angelika Trojnarski, a Polish contemporary artist, back for her second show with the gallery. Entitled “After the Gold Rush,” the show featured paintings and abstract structures as well as sculptural representations of deconstructed buildings made from found materials.
