Recap / Streets: Heerlen Murals Project 2014

The Dutch city of Heerlen in the southernmost province of Limburg recently rounded up their 2nd edition of Heerlen Murals Project. The idea of this ongoing project is to bring life and fresh energy to the streets and the daily life of the city. Heerlen experienced a strong hit to the economy since the closing of a coal mine back in the 60′s, and through programmes such as this one, it is slowly getting a new, positive and recognizable image. By bringing world class street art onto its facades and streets, […]

Cyrcle. For Beef & Liberty Restaurant (Hong Kong)

The dynamic duo known as Cyrcle. (featured) are not new to the Hong Kong art scene (see here and here). So, it comes to no surprise that their imagery has been chosen for the interiors at Beef & Liberty in Wanchai, which allows us to continue our look at the many restaurants that feature work from artists you have seen here on AM. The 83-seat diner, whose decor comes from the minds of the design studio Spinoff, focuses on gourmet burgers. Take a look at more photos below and head […]

Streets: World Roundup (Jul 7 – Jul 20)

A review of recent public works for our Streets World Roundup sees this new mural (seen above) from Shok-1 as one of the standouts. Entitled  The Consumer, the new piece makes a clever modification in the Pac-Man imagery that we are used to and again highlights the sublime translucent x-ray spraycan technique from the London-based artist. Other notable walls come from Know Hope x 2501 – Austria, Gaia – South Carolina, Cyrcle. – Poland, Borondo – UK, Aaron Li-Hill – New Jersey (source), Faith47 – […]

Streets / Recap: Mural Festival (Montreal)

Hosting a great lineup of street art names, the city got culturally richer with the creation of some beautiful large murals that were painted during Mural Festival 2014. With the main idea of celebrating the creativity of and democratizing urban art, last year’s edition of the event had over 800,000 visits, and was awarded the Montreal Grand Prix du Tourisme. Streets: Cyrcle. (London)

During their recent visit to London for the opening of their solo show Overthrone! Pooring Reign (covered), Cyrcle also created a huge mural in Shoreditch. Following the theme and the visual identity of the exhibition, this massive piece features upside down Greek & Roman statues along with an upside down crow, infinity symbol and word REIGN. The whole concept of the mural is focused on taking power back, and overthrowing the rulers. With the Greek & Roman elements symbolizing some of the biggest and strongest empires that […]

Cyrcle. – “Overthrone! Pooring Reign” @ StolenSpace

Several weeks ago in London, the Cyrcle. crew opened up a new solo show at StolenSpace entitled Overthrone! Pooring Reign. Working with design elements mirrored in their recent street works (like for POW! WOW! Hawaii), the Los Angeles-based duo created pieces that dealt with ideas of the interplay of powers and how one’s mind can be used to conquer one’s fears. Take a look at at more photos below… Discuss Cyrcle. here.
