Streets: World Roundup (May 14 – May 20)

We start our roundup off this week with a tribute mural for Maurice Sendak from the PDB crew on Melrose in Los Angeles, You can see more photos on  Melrose & Fairfax for those who want a closer look. For our summary of walls this week, we have for you as our featured wall – REYES in Detroit. The motor city has become one of the hotspots for street activity recently as the tanking economy has ironically led to more abandoned buildings facilitating the rise of public art. The South Africa-based Faith47 recently sent us a photo of her latest piece, If Winter Comes. The large mural is located in Melbourne where she is in town about to open her joint show entitled Antenna Garden with DAL tonight, April 26th, at Rtist Gallery. South Africa-based artists and newlyweds Faith47 and DAL recently sent over some images of their studio space as well as some things they have been working on. Besides their constant presence on the streets with their murals, they are also scheduled to make an appearance at Carbon next month and have a joint show in Melbourne at the Rtist Gallery in April. Teasers: Carbon 2012

During our recent travels to Hawaii for Pow Wow 2012, we connected with artists and creatives from around the globe. Amongst those we met are the good folks from the Carbon Festival. Every year, Thinkspace puts on a group show featuring numerous newer artists they’ve had their eye on over the past year and adds in some artists from their regular rotation and titles it Picks of the Harvest. Streets: DAL – “The Williams Brothers” (Cape Town)

The South Africa-based DAL recently sent us some photos of his latest mural enititled The Williams Brothers. As you can see, some of his signature lifeforms comprised of abstract weaves of energy are bounding across the side of a building.
