Streets: DALeast (Vienna)

The prolific artist DALeast has struck again, this time in Vienna. The South Africa-based Chinese artist painted a mural that draws from his roots as the title of this latest piece is “-”, the a character that means “one” in Chinese. Painted over some scattered graffiti, the work featuring his animal characters rendered with his kinetic brushstrokes blends in nicely with the wall. On Thursday, 6th of June, Chinese artist DalEast opened his first UK solo show titled The London Dare – The Finale Night (347 Old Street) The show was the big finish to his recent visit to Londontown during which he painted some of his best murals to date. South Africa-based DAL and his wife Faith47 have been busy painting murals nonstop since they arrived in London several weeks ago. Our photographer on scene, Butterfly, caught up with the prolific artist as he worked on one of his walls near Brick Lane. POW WOW ’13: DAL

Joining his wife and partner in art Faith47 in Hawaii for this year’s POW WOW was the South Africa-based DALeast. Only a few hundred feet away from where Faith painted her piece, DAL got up on the side of a building with this bird with an impressive wingspan, painted in his signature kinetic style. POW WOW ’13: Kickstarter Project

After meeting up with DALeast & his wife and fellow street artist Faith47 during Basel Week Miami, we would be remiss to not mention his concurrent and current showing at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. POWDER of LIGHT ends this weekend at the New York showspace, but those that stop by will be rewarded by the Chinese-born, South Africa-based artist’s imagery created in his signature style of swirling vortexes of organic black lines.
