Openings: DZINE – “Victory” @ Dallas Contemporary

Chicago-based artist DZINE has recently opened another stunning museum exhibition, this time at the Dallas Contemporary. The show entitled Victory features an impressive selection of new pieces from all the medium’s DZINE is known for, including large-scale mandala paintings, tricked-out cars, ornate chandeliers and other installations. Together, the collection of works leads viewers to examine the human desires for success and recognition, through the lens of the artist’s Puerto Rican background. Victory is on view until March 31. Benefits: MTV RE:DEFINE 2012

Following the success of last year’s RE:DEFINE benefit art auction and exhibition (covered), MTV is again holding its star-studded event to benefit the grassroots HIV & AIDS charity – the Staying Alive Foundation. Streets: Shepard Fairey (Dallas)

Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) brought the OBEY show to Dallas for a series of street murals at the request of the Dallas Contemporary. In conjunction with the project, the institution which is modeled after European kunsthalles or art centers also hosted PHENOMENON, a party with Shep providing the music as DJ Diabetic. Auctions / Benefits: “MTV RE:DEFINE” Results

A couple Saturdays ago, the inaugural MTV RE:DEFINE benefit exhibition and auction opened at the Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas. As we previewed a couple weeks back, curators, The Future Tense, brought together an impressive roster of 30 emerging and established artists in the contemporary and urban/street art genres  – including such big names as Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Harland Miller, Faile, Russell Young and Tracey Emin – to commemorate 30 years of AIDS research. Benefit / Preview: MTV RE:DEFINE @ Goss-Michael Foundation (Dallas)

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation will be holding a benefit art auction and exhibition entitled RE:DEFINE to mark the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus.
