Preview: Dan Quintana – “Zero Instruments” @ Varnish Fine Art

This Saturday, May 25th, Varnish Fine Art in San Francisco will be presenting all new works from Dan Quintana. Zero Instruments will consists of oil paintings and charcoal drawings from the Los Angeles-based artist and will feature his surreal landscapes and fantastical creatures. Drawing influence from Bosch, Quintana’s compositions are rife with leering gremlins and demons meshing with his Mel Ramos-esque girls into works that deserve a second look. Streets: Miss Van & Dan Quintana (Los Angeles)

Last week in Culver City, Miss Van (who was in town for her show at Copro Gallery) and Dan Quintana combined their powers for mural at the Branded Arts Complex. For this wall, entitled The Big Bad Wolf, street French femme fatale and the Los Angeles-based Quintana created a scene involving Vanessa’s signature poupée’s posed with a large wolf. Dan Quintana, whom we last saw show at Copro Gallery in January, is opening a new exhibition at the Last Rites Gallery in New York this weekend. The new body of work entitled “Ethos Astry” will be sure to include Quintana’s beautiful women, often masked in elaborate headdresses with a grotesque twist. “Natural Beauties” and “Superschool” (previewed) opened at Copro Gallery this past Saturday, March 7th. Upon entering Copro Gallery, you will see Lola’s solo show “Natural Beauties” on display in the room directly ahead. A couple interesting shows are opening this weekend at Copro Gallery (formerly Copro Nason Gallery) at the Bergamot Station complex in Santa Monica.
