Buy low, sell high… guess Steve Lazarides sees the recent economic downturnÂ as an opportunity to make some moves. The marquee urban art gallery from London has been busy in 2009. Last month Laz transformed their Greek street location into a shop with a more accessible price point and stocked it with plenty of quality artwork underÂ Â£5,000. Yesterday, David Choe unveiled his latest series of works in Beijing at PYO Gallery. As you saw in the preview, David hit the streets of China hard. David showed ingenuity by utilizing whatever he could get his hands on to create complex pieces out of asian cargo and shopping bags, local “yuan” currency, vintage communist era posters and even a badminton shuttlecock! Apparently, David Choe has been in China working hard on his next series of shows with Pyo Gallery in Beijing.Â Opening simultaneously on April 4th at several locations including the Chao Yan Liquor Gallery & 798 Gallery, his solo exhibit will be entitled “Death Blossom.”Â Take a look at some of the completed and in-progress paintings after the jump. Another great group show is underway at Lazarides (Newcastle Location). This time, the exhibition that opened last weekend is entitled “Outsiders Selection” and features original paintings, prints and sculpture from Faile, Antony Micallef, Blu, Ian Francis, David Choe, JR, Conor Harrington, Damien Hirst, Paul Insect, Invader, Polly Morgan, Kelsey Brookes, Vhils, Jonathan Yeo, Herbert Baglione, Zevs, and more.Â Although the art was mainly older work, there were many standout pieces including this stunning “Flying Copper” (seen above) by Banksy suspended in glass/plexi.Â Many more pics […]

AM stopped by yesterday at GR2 for the signing and release of David Choe’s “Choegal” toy. Many fans braved the cold weather and some lined up for over an hour to get their figure as well the poster of the current Giant Robot magazine cover signed.Â More photos after the jump.
