Opening this Thursday, Oct 10, is Quam Odunsi’s second solo exhibition at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. The show will include printed silkscreen and film works, painting on canvas, […]

Openings: ‘Word Play’ @ Design Matters

A little while back we brought you a preview of some of the work for Word Play, hosted at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. The premise of the exhibition excited us as the curated theme was based around text within art. The group exhibition was curated by Stephanie Chefas, of Platinum Cheese blog fame and features a variety of artists from very different backgrounds but all commonly using text in their work though a range of styles and mediums. Preview: “This Will Destroy That!” @ Design Matters

As evidenced by such events as the closing of mega bookstores, the shuttering of print shops, the bankruptcy of newspapers, and the gradual transition of reading to ebooks, tablets, and smartphones, physical print is dying a slow and painful death. With high tech digital products spreading into the homes and hands of nearly everyone around the globe, it takes with it the mandatory need to apply ink on paper. Posters were once a important and necessary form of disseminating information to the public at large, […]

Openings: Quam Odunsi – “Anachronistic Capture: Motion & Stills” @ Design Matters

Opening a couple of weeks back in Los Angeles was Quam Odunsi’s debut solo exhibition (curated by AM’s Khoi Nguyen) of captivating film, still images, slides, and Polaroid collage-based artwork.  The well thought-out and displayed exhibition was one of the first shows in the new Design Matters space (down the street and on the other side of the 405 from their former location).  Consisting of a film projector, two slide projectors, a wall of 100 Polaroids, and framed pieces throughout, the show of completely new […]

Preview: Quam Odunsi – “Anachronistic Capture: Motion & Stills” @ Design Matters

Technology moves forward at an ever-increasing pace every day and for visual art and capture, most of the time the latest slick digital innovation and highest number of megapixels do not provide the best picture. Analog film, however antiquated and labor-intensive in procedure, produces an accurate image and provides the viewer with a warm nostalgic feeling. In Anachronistic Capture: Motion & Stills, opening March 29 (and curated by AM’s Khoi Nguyen) at Design Matters in Los Angeles, Quam Odunsi uses vintage cameras and equipment to create […]
