A couple Saturdays ago, the inaugural MTV RE:DEFINE benefit exhibition and auction opened at the Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas. As we previewed a couple weeks back, curators, The Future Tense, brought together an impressive roster of 30 emerging and established artists in the contemporary and urban/street art genres – including such big names as Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Harland Miller, Faile, Russell Young and Tracey Emin – to commemorate 30 years of AIDS research. Some great street art surprises have popped up around Shoreditch since the last AM London Instagram Roundup. First up, this brilliant, huge piece by the prolific Sweet Toof and CEPT at Village Underground was exceptionally nice to see. The MTV Staying Alive Foundation will be holding a benefit art auction and exhibition entitled RE:DEFINE to mark the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus. Openings: T&J Art Walk Charity Exhibition

As mentioned in our previous look at the streets of Oslo, the T&J Art Walk took the art work indoors for an impressive charity exhibition that opened this past weekend. With sale proceeds benefiting the Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) work, Streets artists such as Faile, Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, D*Face, The London Police, Will Barras, Flying Fortress and more; donated their fine art for a great cause. After mentioning Faile’s (featured) wall for the T&J Art Walk (and the fun they had with a ping pong table) earlier in the month in an Overtime article, we thought it was time for an update. You probably came across the pictures online recently of the paving slab that D*Face (interviewed) installed in East London a couple of weeks back… Known for carrying out street level interventions previously such as his concrete spray cans, and also the tombstones he installed on the Hollywood walk of fame, first seen in our studio visit, AM thought the paving stunt was a pretty cool move from D*Face. Remember when D*Face (interviewed) hit up the Ridiculous Pool, the skateboarding hotspot in San Bernardino, California back in 2009? Named because of its sweet curvature, the empty pool is perfect for skaters and this time D, who was in town for the Corey Helford anniversary show, took advantage of that fact by attaching spraycans to the decks and letting everyone paint up the pool. Tonight in London, the StolenSpace Gallery will be holding their annual Summer Group Show. Featuring represented artists as well as a few new names to the roster, this exhibition will include all brand new works in varied media and size as well as new print releases from D*Face (interviewed) & Word To Mother (interviewed). Other names you may recognize in the show include Sylvia Ji, Chloe Early, Hellovon, Eine, Mysterious Al, Oliver Vernon, and Josie Morway (see full list here). Charming Baker is back in London with a new pop-up exhibition that previews this evening at Mercer Street Studios (16 Mercer Street), an attractive space in Covent Garden. AM had a nose around the venue during the final preparations to check out Baker’s recent canvases, prints, as well as sculptures — a medium we haven’t associated with him before.
