Recap / Streets: Unexpected (Fort Smith)

Recently, we shared with you a mural that D*Face (interviewed) completed for the Unexpected public arts event in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Curated by Just Kids, artists Vhils, Roa (seen above), Maser, Ana Maria, Bicicleta Sem Freio and Askew were also invited in to paint walls in the former real western town’s downtown area. Take a look below at some photos, which also includes another piece from D*Face.                

Streets: D*Face – “Bad Lands” (Fort Smith)

Over the weekend, D*Face (interviewed) completed a mural in Fort Smith, Arkansas, an effort that took five days. Painted for the Unexpected event curated by Just Kids, the piece entitled Badlands features a cowboy astride a horse rendered in the British artist’s comic inspired style. He further states – “This is a bandit’s life, it comes and goes and them the breaks.” Photo credit: Rom Levy (via StreetArtNews). Discuss D*Face here.

Openings: D*Face – ‘Wasted Youth’ @ CAC Malaga

CAC Málaga, in collaboration with the British Council, recently opened up the first solo exhibition in Spain from D*Face (interviewed). The London-based artist’s work was seen for the first time in Málaga in 2013 when he created an immense mural for the MAUS Project (covered) along with Shepard Fairey. As Urban Nation continues their strong public arts program with their 8th phase (Project M/8) entitled FREEDOM, our attention is drawn back to Berlin to see what a new set of artists have to offer. Upcoming: D*Face – “Wasted Youth” @ CAC Malaga

Towards the end of 2013, D*Face (interviewed) and Shepard Fairey (featured) joined forces to paint two large murals (covered) on the side of a building in Malaga, Spain. Fast forward to the end the month and the city in southern Spain will see D return with his first museum exhibition at the CAC Malaga entitled Wasted Youth. Another piece that was among the first ones to be finished and signed at this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) is a new large mural by D*Face. POW! WOW! ’15 / Streets: Mural Overview (Part I)

At 10am on Monday, Feb 9th, the mural painting part of POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 officially begun with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at the Lana Lane headquarters in Kaka’ako in Honolulu.
