As the opening of the Space//Form group exhibition draws ever nearer, and following on from our studio view, AM brings you a glimpse of some of the work in this huge show. One of the most interesting things about curating a group exhibition of over 100 artists is getting to see behind the scenes as the artists develop their work for the show (Chloe Early seen above). Updates come constantly as the participants share their excitement about creating work for the show, and getting to see some of the creative process that goes into the work is always a pleasure. Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. This past weekend, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine hosted their second annual “tiny” art showcase entitled Tiny Trifecta. As we mentioned in our preview, artists this year upped the ante as each created three pieces of original artwork for fans who may not have the opportunity to purchase their larger scale works. One of the artists displaying works alongside Eric White’s current showing (covered) is New York-born, Northern California-based artist Doze Green, in what is his fourth solo exhibition at Jonathan LeVine. Luminosity in the Dark Rift, features a series of mixed media works on canvas, panel, and paper all demonstrating his signature combinations of cubism, abstract lifeforms, and stylized letterforms leading to rich and complex compositions. These sorts of artistic collaborations always interest us here at AM, especially where we can see it happen in person like the Art Jams at Baby Tattooville (2008, 2009, 2010). The beautiful weather and the promise of great art seemingly brought out all the five boroughs Thursday night for the opening of the Barnstormers show at Joshua Liner Gallery.
