Streets: El Mac & Augustine Kofie (Los Angeles)

Over the past week, artists El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) collaborated on a wall inside the KROQ radio station complex. For this project, the duo brought forth a mural which fittingly centered around the idea of music. They had previously worked together on a piece inside the 33third Store / Mid-City Arts building, however this time around they focused on a color palette featuring a variety of red, white and dark colors. Although their styles are very different, the two of them managed create [...]

Streets: El Mac – “Spirit of Summer” (Canada)

As summer is drawing to an end, AM thought we would draw attention to this mural from Los Angeles-based El Mac, who recently visited one of his favorite cities, Montreal, Canada. Entitled Spirit of Summer, this piece is an interpretation of a young Rose Phillips, the namesake of the neighborhood this is in, Rosemont. More in progress photos from the master of can control after the jump…

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

After having a break from London, AM was very happy to return to a lot of fresh pieces. Phlegm has been painting the walls of The Foundry with his impressive comic book characters, Kid Acne has put up one of his excellent paste-ups which is especially nice, and it was also great to see that Mobstr had been out and about again with one of his thought provoking stencil messages. Also a great wall by artist David Shillinglaw who currently has a show at East [...]

El Mac – “Portrait of a Dying Cockroach” @ Carhartt Gallery

A cockroach is a rather unusual subject for a painting when compared to El Mac’s usual repertoire although he has a pretty good story behind it. The LA-based spray paint savant decided to make it the centerpiece of his installation for the Public Provocations show at the Carhartt Gallery that ran parallel to most recent Art Basel fair in Switzerland. The large painting must have been an eye-opener to attendees as he was told there are no cockroaches in Switzerland. More photos after the jump…

Openings: MS Fundraiser for Tim Strazza @ Joshua Liner Gallery

We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. We helped sponsor a fundraiser created by the gallery to generate funds that went to support Tim and his medical bills. It seemed that almost everyone came out of the woodworks to donate artwork for the charity auction including a heavy rotation of [...]

Video: RETNA & El Mac – “Let the Arts Roam”

RETNA (featured), who we last saw in London on his Hallelujah World Tour and El Mac, who we last saw getting up with Augustine Kofie are two frequent collaborators who recently were featured in a video portrait – Let the Arts Roam as part of the I Am Los Angeles series. Included in the footage are various murals they have worked on as well as a discussion with both artists on their philosophy behind the content of their murals, public art in poor neighborhoods, and [...]

Video: El Mac – “Kosoom by the Mekong” (Vietnam)

We last caught up with El Mac when he was collaborating with Augustine Kofie on a mural for the Pasadena Street Cred exhibition (covered). But, if you remember before that, we had featured his tour around the world where he dropped bombs on Dublin, Hawaii, Singapore, and Vietnam in August of 2010. Now, a sweet video has been recently released of part of that trip where he got up in Ho Chi Minh City. Discuss El Mac here.
