Openings: Eric Fortune – “A Life to Leave” @ Lebasse Projects (Culver City)

Last month at Lebasse Projects, AM had the chance to visit A Life to Leave, a new solo from Eric Fortune (interviewed). Ever since we first started covering the Ohio-based painter’s work, we have known about his time-consuming and very detailed style but the new pieces really seem like he has accentuated his process (if that is possible). Upcoming: Eric Fortune – “A Life to Leave” @ Lebasse Projects (Culver City)

Coming up next month on the 14th, the Culver City location of the Lebasse Projects will be hosting a solo show from Eric Fortune (interviewed). Last we saw of the Ohio-based painter, it was the end of 2010 and he was showing at the same space alongside Nate Frizzell. The new body of work deals with characters in transition between the known and the unknown, all rendered with his time-consuming “glazing” technique infusing each piece with subtle details and luminous lighting. Openings: “Summer Invitational” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Summer is coming down the home stretch and people are getting ready to take their last vacations before fall. This also means that it was time for Jonathan LeVine Gallery to hold its annual Summer Invitational group show (previewed). Mr. Levine took time to exhibit a select batch of artists including Daniel Martin Diaz, Eric Fortune, Hello Monsters, Edwin Ushiro, Dick Chicken, Melissa Haslam, Above, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Yuko Shimizu, Jennifer Delilah and Meryl Smith on the gallery walls. Creative Process: Eric Fortune (Part II)

Last Saturday night, opening alongside Nate Frizzell in the Culver City art district was Eric Fortune (interviewed) “A Dream’s Reflection” in the project room of LeBasse Projects. The Ohio-based artist made it all the way out for the opening and brought along five new paintings with his somber characters floating in swirling layers of interplay between light and shadow.
