Openings: “Major Work” @ Chandran Gallery

Earlier this month, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco opened a show curated by Andrew Schoultz entitled Major Work. The locally-based artist carefully selected a roster of participants that included himself, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Kelsey Brookes, Revok, James Marshall (Dalek), Sam Friedman, Eric Yahnker, Mark Dean Veca, Saber, Hilary Pecis, Tim Biskup, Eric White, and Allison Schulnik. The premise behind the exhibition was for each artist to contribute a large-scale piece that they felt capture the essence of their work. The resulting show was quite stunning, as evidenced by […]

Upcoming: Eric White – “Down In Front” @ Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea

On September 25th, Eric White (interviewed) will be presenting new works in Milan at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea. His second solo with the gallery will feature paintings and drawings collectively entitled Down In Front. The new imagery will no doubt continue his exploration of perspective as well as keep his characters on the road and will have an old school cinematic feel to it. Discuss Eric White here.

Studio Visits/Previews: Eric White – “All Of This Has Not Occurred” @ Martha Otero Gallery

AM recently had the pleasure of stopping by New York-based artist Eric White’s (interviewed) studio.  During the visit, we got the chance to see some of his new work for his solo exhibition entitled All of This Has Not Occurred coming up at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles. White showed us an alternate reality with his work – work which he describes as “Paranoid Social Realism” – a look into a different Hollywood, which is conceived as a multidimensional world. He executes this by masterfully inventing films and […]

Rewind: Oct 7 – Oct 13

It’s been quite a while since our last Rewind feature, so it’s high time we bring you some videos. Starting things off is an explicit new music video from  Tyler, The Creator entitled Tamale. If you recognize the scene from 0:48 – 1:02, it’s because it is a scene based of a Mark Ryden painting who also designed the cover for his new album – Wolf. Other notable videos: An interview with Anthony Lister at Wynwood Miami last May. ROA, Phlegm and others recreate famous Baroque paintings. RuPaul drives […]

Studio Visit / Preview: Eric White – “Magic Kingdom” @ Gallery Poulsen

We’ve been following Brooklyn based painter Eric White’s (interviewed) progress as he was steadily working his brush magic over recent months in anticipation of his double solo show in Copenhagen, currently sharing the stage with Daniel Davidson entitled Magic Kingdom at Gallery Poulsen in Denmark. Eric has long been a man of transcendence, and this latest batch of work is certainly a representation of this. If you have the opportunity to attend the show in Copenhagen then we sternly suggest you make a night of […]

Openings: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery (Part 2)

Following directly on from Part 1 of our coverage of the busy Space//Form opening, AM now delves a little deeper pictorially into the artwork created for this huge group exhibition of 110 artists with a series of pictures where the art is more viewable (like the Mark Dean Veca installation above). To recap, all of the participating artists were given an identical 10×10 inch cradled timber panel by exhibition sponsor Ampersand as the medium to work on. The exhibition curator, Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis chose a brief […]
