Last week at their Central Hong Kong space, Gagosian Gallery opened an exhibition of work from New York-based contemporary artist Richard Prince. Timed perfectly to coincide with Art HK ’11, the exhibition marked the first solo effort in Asia for the famed photographer, painter, and mixed media artist. Last month, Circleculture Gallery served as ground zero for Katrin Fridriks newest body of work. Entitled Leak of Information (previewed), the Icelandic-born, Paris-based artist unleashed her abstract mania on Berlin in striking fashion. Los Angeles contemporary art staple Blum & Poe was yet another in a seemingly never ending stream of must-see booths at the main fair, Art Basel Miami Beach. Of particular interest was a massive new work by Takashi Murakami, exhibiting the Japanese pop art icon’s unique range and continued evolution within his self-branded “superflat” style. Running at full steam right now down in South Beach, Art Basel Week is filled with many good things. This was most definitely one of them. With more time to explore the big fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, a stroll past Team Gallery’s booth (teased) was in order.
