Continuing their longstanding public arts program, Urban Nation in Berlin recently completed their ninth edition – Project M/9. Curated by JUSTKIDS and StreetArtNews, the event this time hosted Borondo (seen above), Fafi, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Askew, 1010, and Eron as they painted walls in the capital city with “Colors” as the theme. Earlier this month, the POW! WOW! crew spent a second year (see 2015) at SXSW painting murals for festival goers to enjoy. Once again, the Wynwood Arts District became the capital of the street art world during Basel Week Miami. With the annual event in Hawaii expanding into SXSW this year and Taiwan last year, the POW! WOW! festival will finally hit the west coast on June 21-28. POW! WOW! Long Beach will feature a week of exhibitions, film screenings, talks and of course public murals. Legendary graffiti and street artist Fafi, attended this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) for the first time. Known for her playful & sexy female characters and colorful work she’s been creating for decades, she was inspired with Hawaii to create a more conceptual, installation style piece. She first painted two of her characters on a wooden panel, before cutting them out. At 10am on Monday, Feb 9th, the mural painting part of POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 officially begun with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at the Lana Lane headquarters in Kaka’ako in Honolulu. After the ceremony, the artists picked up their paint and needed equipment and started working on their designated walls.
