Showing: Beyond The Streets (NYC)

After an inaugural showing last year in Los Angeles (covered), it was only a matter of time before the BEYOND THE STREETS  hit what many consider one of the birth places of graffiti in the US. New York’s version of the exhibition (curated by Roger Gastman) celebrating graffiti, street art, and beyond once again featured a stunning roster of some of the most well known and seminal artists in the genre. Ranging from paintings, sculptures, photography, mural art to site-specific installations from 100+ artists, posting all the photos […]

Openings: Faile & Bast – “Deluxx Fluxx” @ The Belt (Detroit)

Over the weekend, Deluxe Fluxx opened in a new permanent home at The Belt in Detroit, a downtown alleyway with art curated by the Library Street Collective. The immersive art installation & arcade by Brooklyn-based artist duo Faile and artist Bast has traveled to multiple locations around the world, but will be putting down its roots in the Motor City as a bar and music venue. Those hunting for the location should look on the north side of the alley for a door with neon X’s, which […]

Upcoming: BEYOND THE STREETS (Los Angeles) – Curated by Roger Gastman

In 2011, Roger Gastman was an associate curator of Art in the Streets, the first major US museum (at MOCA) survey of graffiti and street art. As one of the world’s foremost authorities on these art forms and movements, he returns to curate a groundbreaking follow-up to the show, called BEYOND THE STREETS. The spectacular exhibition will include over 100 artists (including perhaps one very big surprise one?) showcasing paintings, sculpture, photography, and installations (including a re-creation, in partnership with adidas Skateboarding, of the famous Venice Pavilion), on more […]

Upcoming: Faile – “Stages” @ Galerie Springmann

After a successful show in Detroit (covered), Faile (featured) has turned their attention to their next project. Entitled Stages, the new exhibition opening on December 2nd at Galerie Springmann in Berlin will feature some more painterly and graffiti-laced works as well as some of the Brooklyn-based duo’s puzzle-based works. Judging from some of the photos of the Patricks working, there will be some large-scale pieces as well. Discuss Faile here. Discuss this show here.

Showing: Faile – “The Size of the Fight” @ Library Street Collective (Detroit)

Last weekend, Library Street Collective opened a new solo from Faile (featured) entitled The Size of the Fight, the duo’s first show in Detroit. Along with originals, prints, and sculptural works, one of the walls featured a mural from the Patrick’s as they took inspiration from the Motor City’s revival in the last several years. The Brooklyn-based artists also unveiled five large-scale painted, stenciled, and silkscreened works on wood panels in the adjacent alleyway aka “The Belt,” the gallery’s public exhibition space (more on this later). Discuss Faile here.

Upcoming: Faile – “The Size of the Fight” @ Library Street Collective (Detroit)

Coming up on June 24th, Library Street Collective will be presenting new work from Faile (featured) in their first Detroit exhibition. The title of the show, The Size of the Fight, references Mark Twain’s quote, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog,” which can be applied to the Motor City’s revival in the last several years. In association with the show, the Brooklyn duo will be unveiling five large-scale painted, stenciled, and silkscreened works on wood panels in […]

Faile Ceramic Tile House Installation (Venice)

Recently in Venice, California, Faile (featured) completed an tile installation that wrapped around the facade of one of the housesoff a side street of Abbot Kinney (741 California Avenue). Take a look here for more info as well as watch the video below as the Brooklyn-based duo talk about the project. Discuss Faile here.

Introducing: The Liberia Project // Apartial

Apartial is an Dublin-based platform with a mission to bring creativity to everyone and encourage people to join the creative community by hosting projects. With this in mind they recently organized The Liberia Project together with a team of local surfers in West Africa. After enduring an 11-year civil war and the recent Ebola crisis, the Liberian people needed a new start, a chance to begin a new chapter. The Apartial team thought of a project with a premise that art could be the catalyst to help […]
