Streets: World Roundup (Aug 1 – Sept 11)

With the end of another week of summer (good weather for outdoor mural painting), it’s time for another Streets World Roundup. Leading things off are these two murals seen above from Shok-1 and Marina Zumi for the Lollapalooza Berlin Festival. Between August 11 – 14, Swizz Beatz has organized an art fair at his birthplace – South Bronx in New York. During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, adult animated sitcom South Park hosted a 20th anniversary art show as part of their South Park 20 experience. Controversy Surrounding The South Park 20th Anniversary Show Censorship

Tonight, the South Park 20th Anniversary Show held in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con unveiled works from artists asked to create works influenced by the animated series. Included here are some of the pieces painted for the exhibition, but the two first ones from Paul Insect (above) and Andrew Schoultz (directly below) were allegedly censored by the South Park Public Relations Team. Showing: “City Lights” @ Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art

Although the opening was delayed due to the terrible recent events in Brussels, City Lights at the newly formed Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art ended up kicking off successfully earlier this month. The newly formed Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art in Brussels will be opening their doors on March 24th (opening postponed to 13th of April at 11 am due to the terrible recent events in Brussels), with an inaugural show entitled City Lights. Releases: Faile – “Savage Sacred Young Minds” Print Portfolio

Earlier today, Faile (featured) announced the preorder availability of their Savage Sacred Young Minds print portfolio at special price of $3000. The images are taken from pieces in the Brooklyn-based duo’s Brooklyn Museum show earlier in the summer including Night Bender, Almost Rapture, Eastern Suspenso, Bad Seeds, Invasion Dream Club, and Off On a Fast One. Fans can also purchase these prints individually as they are released (first one here), but Off On a Fast On will only be available in the set. Head over here if you are interested. Leading off this latest Rewind feature is a 30 minute documentary on Banksy’s recent Dismaland project (covered). One of the hosts in the video is none other than one of our photographers and writers – Butterfly. This latest edition of our Rewind article is headlined by a trailer for a new short film by JR (interviewed) starring Robert De Niro. Entitled Ellis, the footage follows the Academy Award Winning actor as he stars as an immigrant whose pursuit of a new life expired at Ellis Island. Traversing an abandoned hospital complex, De Niro is confronted with ghostly archival photographs of immigrants and hospital patients taken over a century ago pasted up by the JR, part of the French artist’s Unframed series of works.
