FAME Festival: Blu & David Ellis

The great Italian street artist Blu has finally made his mark at FAME Fest (see AM’s coverage here). Few possess the faculty or ingenuity to manipulate their surroundings quite like him to create a work of art. The piece above was created both for the festival and for an animated film that Blu and David Ellis are currently working on. We love the films these artists have created in the past and are very excited to see their collaborative effort. See images of David Ellis’ work in […]

FAME Festival: Sam3

We are always happy to see more photos from FAME Fest. Here is a new selection of pieces by Sam3. Check out that great Ericailcane piece from last year’s event peeking out from under the arch as he works! We love this beautiful monastery that the artists have been painting in; it really makes the work come alive. Read the rest of our coverage of FAME Fest here. More pics after the jump.

FAME Festival: Lucy Mclauchlan Video

A video of Lucy Mclauchlan working on her mural for this year’s FAME Festival has just been uploaded. With the nicely put together time-lapse, we can really see up close how much detail was put into this piece. Check out more coverage of this year’s festival in Italy here. Discuss the FAME Festival here.

FAME Festival: Vhils

Looks like there is another update from this year’s FAME Festival. Vhils has put up three pieces so far, one of which is seen above. Sadly, the Mark Jenkins piece we showed you before has been taken down by the police. Take a look at some more pics after the jump including a look at Vhils working on some new prints and originals for the show.

FAME Festival: Mark Jenkins, Sam3, and Vhils

Mark Jenkins is shaking things up at FAME Festival (covered here). AM’s favorite tape sculptor has grabbed Grottaglie’s attention with an impressive installation on one of the town’s characteristically charming buildings.  As director Angelo Milano describes it, “Everybody was cool and smiling, including the old lady screaming, “Ggiovine!?! Ggiovvine!! Ascinne!” (English: “Hey boy!?! Hey boy!! Get down!”)

FAME Festival: Lucy Mclauchlan

Lucy Mclauchlan made her mark on the town of Grottaglie with her art deco-like motifs as part of the FAME Festival, bringing out the cherry picker and scaffolding to throw up the massive mural seen above. Impressed by the ceramic pieces that Conor Harrington (interviewed) produced, Lucy joined in on the fun as well. See her distinctive ceramic works after the jump…

FAME Festival: Conor Harrington x Ceramics

Remember when we showed you the Conor Harrington (interviewed) piece for the upcoming FAME Festival last week?  Well, what we didn’t tell you was that Grottaglie, the town where the festival will be held, is famous for its ceramic tradition dating back hundreds of years.  As part of this years festivities, artists are invited to experiment with local artisans on various projects, which has so far yielded some pretty fantastic ceramic plates by Conor.  This is not the first time urban/street art and ceramics has […]

Streets: Conor Harrington x FAME Festival

Looks like Conor Harrington (interviewed) was the first one to get up in his usual awesome fashion in Italy for this year’s FAME Festival (teased). FAME, put on by Studio Cromie, brings a select group of street artists to the small southern Italian town of Grottaglie. Look for further updates as more murals go up. Via unurth. Discuss this show here. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Teaser: FAME Festival 2009

Studio Cromie just announced their lineup for “FAME Festival 2009,” an outdoor art event held from June through September in which street and contemporary artists from across the globe descend on Italy to create some spectacular murals across the city of Grottaglie. The festival will draw to a close on September 19th with a group show featuring new work from the participating artists, print and book releases, as well as a tour around town to see all the artwork. This year’s lineup includes: Blu, Conor […]
