Tomorrow night (June 1st) in Los Angeles, Thinkspace will be opening a special exhibition from two street artists known to work on the miniature scale. Entitled Trash Talk, the joint exhibition will feature work from both Beligum’s Jaune and UK-based Slinkachu. This last weekend, the hauntingly beautiful Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia Contemporary closed its two week run. Natural Selection featured a new body of work from the San Diego-based artist, rendered expertly as usual and steeped with an air of mystery. Before his stunt of setting up shop without a permit to make a point about tourism on the streets during the Venice Biennale, Banksy had previously left an unconfirmed stencil on an abandoned house next to the canal. Created at water level, the elusive British artist must have used a boat to steady himself as he painted a young child wearing a life jacket and holding a pink flare up in the air. The latest artist to be commissioned to lend their imagery to high fashion, in this case Fendi, is graffiti artist PREF. The London-based artist and member of the ID crew is known for his word play and three dimensional lettering, oftentimes multilayered with one word laying on top of or inside of other words. Making an uninvited appearance in the city during the Venice Biennale, Banksy decided to set up shop and appear to sell his art on the streets along with all the other vendors. The difference being he didn’t have a permit to do so and the art done in the elusive artist’s uniquely tongue-in-cheek style. Streets: Pejac – “Gold Mine” Project @ El Dueso Prison (Spain)

Continuing his penchant of working on unconventional creative projects, Pejac recently completed a few interventions at the Penitentiary Center of El Dueso in Spain. Situated at the entrance of artist’s hometown of Santander, it was built at the beginning of the 20th century on the remains of one of Napoleon’s old forts and is considered the oldest prison in the country. A couple weekends ago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (with support from Library Street Collective) opened a new show from art superstar KAWS. Entitled ALONE AGAIN, the exhibition features five large scale companion sculptures and three paintings displayed on a special mural painted by the Brooklyn-based artist. Utilizing his signature bold colors and abstracted pop imagery, the paintings really stand out against the 62-foot black and white snoopy-esque backdrop.
