Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia recently opened a group show titled Department of Neighborhood Services on the 11th of April. Showing new works by Isaac Lin, Dan Murphy and Barry McGee, the exhibition is yet another collaboration of artists who worked together on different projects for over a decade. Tomorrow morning (April 18th) at 10 am PST, Brian Viveros (featured) will be releasing two prints through Static Medium. The first is seen above and is entitled Devil In All Of Us, a timed edition that will be sold for 48 hours with the run size determined by the number of orders during that period of time. After traveling to Japan, UK-based artist Nick Walker (interviewed) returned to New York City for a residency that will lead him up to a showing in the Big Apple (more on that soon). One of the coolest exhibitions that opened up during Armory Week was put on by Anonymous Gallery, who hosted a pop-up exhibition by the red hot Pryce Lee. Entitled Single Shot, this series of fifteen individually composed art pieces explores the instance where a life is changed by a single bullet. Through the use of a mirrored sculpture, Pryce literally reflects the viewer and transport them to a world where violence has the side effect of creating innocent bystanders all around the world. Recap: Joe Sorren – “Knock Three Times” @ AFA Gallery

For those who missed the Joe Sorren (featured) exhibition which just closed at AFA in New York, here are some photos you can peruse from when we stopped by last month. Returning to the gallery that showed him in NYC a year ago (covered), the gifted painter presented twelve new oil paintings collectively entitled Knock Three Times. Seeing Sorren’s expressive paintings in person certainly reminds one of how emotive the gestures of his characters are and how his delicate brushstrokes can create such fantastic dream-like imagery. We recently had the pleasure of visiting the painting studios of Brooklyn based artist Michael Kagan as he was preparing for his show at Joshua Liner Gallery. As it turns out, the final product was even more pleasing than we would have hoped. Entitled Thunder in the Distance, this exhibition focused on space travel and its various key components which make this seemingly impossible task of existing (temporarily) in space possible. It looks like the infamous British man of mystery, Banksy, was active on the streets of his homeland this weekend. First, on Sunday morning a new piece appeared on the side of a house in Cheltenham. The stenciled image shows three old fashioned secret agents in brown trench coats, using retro looking gadgets to eavesdrop a phone booth. Ai Weiwei’s largest show to date, Evidence, has just opened at Martin Gropius-Bau, Berlin. The exhibition features new works that have been specifically designed for the exhibition or have never been shown in Germany. The show references some of the artist’s most well-known work, and his widely known experiences as an activist.
