Openings: Erik Parker – “Undertow” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the 297 Tenth Avenue location of Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception for Undertow, Erik Parker’s new solo show. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the locally-based artist arranges these elements into complex compositions that become greater than the sum of its parts. The highly saturated palette as well as shaped canvases further accent his imagery, a commentary on the “world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes.” Discuss Erik Parker here.

Openings: Etam Cru – “Galimatias” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Entitled Galimatias, the new body of work from Bezt & Sainer consists of canvas, linen, wood and paper pieces painted with acrylic, graphite, ink, and spraypaint. A full house and an abundance of red dots proved the anticipation of this show was well deserved. The title of the show comes French word for “gibberish” or “nonsense.” This relates to artists’ tendency to create works that carry no deeper meaning or symbolism, made strictly for their aesthetic value and left to […]

Stop by for a look if you can, the new works are exquisite, especially his largest painting to date (seen above). Discuss this show here. […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel (Part 1)

During the start of Basel Week Miami, we gave you an early first look during the VIP session of the Art Basel Miami Beach fair. Blue-chip galleries displayed 2015’s treasures by artists such as Andy Warhol, Kaws, Alex Israel, Tal R, Alex Katz, Josh Smith, Yoshitomo Nara, Ai […]
