Openings: Beyond Eden 2015

Just this past weekend, the fifth and final edition of Beyond Eden was held at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. The bulk of the artworks exhibited was seen at booths from C.A.V.E. Gallery (Venice, CA), Copro Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), Spoke Art (San Francisco, CA), Hashimoto Contempoary (San Francisco, CA) and event organizers Thinkspace (Culver City, CA). Also, both Mear One (interviewed) and Meggs had solo showcases hosted by the event and there was live painting from Steven Lopez, Gustavo Rimada, John Park and Joseph Lee on Saturday night. Baby Tattooville ’15: Surrealist Ball

On Saturday night, attendees of this year’s Baby Tattooville at Riverside’s Mission Inn witnessed something that they will not soon forget for a very long time. The highlight of the annual art retreat (although this year’s was the last) was a Surrealist Ball hosted by none other than Mark Ryden and Marion Peck. Baby Tattooville ’15: Art Jam

Every year at Baby Tattooville, one of the most intriguing and fun events is the continuously ongoing “Art Jam.” For 2015, participating artists Anthony Ausgang, Sas Christian, Olivia De Berardinis, Ron English, Camille Rose Garcia, Bosko Hrnjak, Marion Peck, KRK Ryden, Mark Ryden, and Isabel Samaras decided to go with a black, white, and gray palette to create a surreal collaborative masterpiece. This will then be reproduced as a print overnight by Prints On Wood so that attendees can take a copy home with them. Discuss this year’s Baby Tattooville here.

Last week, Urban Nation curated an event in Reykjavic in association with the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival where participants were paired with an audio artist who provided the visual artist with a song, a title, a poem, a quote or a book that greatly influenced their work. Tonight at the Riverside Art Museum, Fade To Black opened its door to the public after a private dinner reception on the roof of the museum. After a successful first event in 2014 (covered), the public arts program No Limit Borås in Sweden is back this year with a stellar list of artist. Chinese artist DALeast (interviewed) was one of the people invited to paint in the city of Borås, an opportunity he took to paint one of his expansive bird murals. For the upcoming Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale in Russia, the Berlin-based EVOL has prepared a special installation featuring his signature reproduction of urban structures. The twist on this piece though, entitled Mind the Gap, is the red-tinged separation that runs right down the center of the buildings.
