Art Focus / Videos: Riusuke Fukahori

Riusuke Fukahori and his amazing three-dimensional paintings have been selected as our Art Focus this week. With incredible patience and with layer by layer of paint and poured resin, Fukahori builds up these incredible life-like creations of his favorite subject – goldfish. When the 3D pieces are placed in buckets and tubs, the illusion is complete. The Japanese painter just closed an exhibition at ICN Gallery in London and you can check out more photos here. After hitting up the new Facebook headquarters at the behest of Mark Zuckerberg, David Choe (featured) headed over to Mile-High City for the Terminal Kings project at the Denver International Airport. While that event (more on this later) also features the work of Sam Flores and Highgraff, David also brought along his friends, artists DVS-1 and Joseph To, to get in on the fun with some high energy collaborations. Late last year during the holidays, we brought you pictures from Dabs Myla‘s latest mural which took place in the Culver City of Los Angeles (covered). David Choe Paints Tribute To Beaten Asian Teen

By now, everyone has probably seen the video that went viral which showed a group of people brutally beating a Chicago teenager. Thankfully, it sounds like the Asian victim of the racially motivated attack appears to not have sustained serious injuries. David Choe (featured) recently painted this tribute mural to hopefully bring attention to this issue as well as get some of these cowards put in jail if they can be recognized. Well, hope everyone survived Friday the 13th. If so, you are will be able to enjoy this week’s roundup of work on the streets. Leading the charge is a series of new murals in an abandoned tower by Sheffield-based artist Phlegm. You can see the rest of them here.
