Taking time out of his marathon work sessions, he gave us a sneak preview into his coming show “Familiar Strangers” (teased) at LeBasse Projects which opens June 12th. The show is comprised of not only his signature “east meets west” brand of technique and imagery, but marks the expansion of Yoskay’s work into ceramics and clay modeling. We got to see a few of these intricate creations which are each hand molded/sanded. In case you […]

Streets: Nick Walker in Bristol

Most butterflies can only be expected to live for a week or two, but this little winged creature from Nick Walker only lasted for 7 hours before it was tagged over. Such is the nature of street art, but it must be pretty frustrating to see your hard work tagged over with something of little value. The mural is in Bristol, and went up earlier this week. Nick told us he went back yesterday to go over it again. We reckon version number 2 looks […]

Streets: Vhils & JR in Los Angeles

According to Lazarides, Vhils and JR have both taken time out from their busy schedule (Vhils – Fame Fest, JR – Cannes Festival & Germany) to travel to Los Angeles to prepare for their upcoming show. In fact, they are already on the streets around town working on some of the big-scale pieces they are famous for. Highlights: Recommended Openings for This Weekend (May 28th & 29th)

Bit of a slow weekend as we ramp up for the HUGE amount of shows on tap for this coming June. By far the biggest event this weekend goes down in Paris, France – the return of the legendary NYC graffiti writer SEEN at Galerie Magda Danysz. As a pioneer of the street art movement, Richard Mirando, aka SEEN, has blazed a trail that many aspire too and few will ever match. The rest of the schedule after the jump…

Streets: Os Gemeos, Blu, and Sam3 (Lisbon)

It looks like the mural collaboration between Os Gemeos and Blu that we showed you a couple days ago has been completed. Check out the awesome man with the crown of oil company logos sucking the world dry painted by Blu, pretty timely considering what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico. Take a look at more pics after the jump including a bonus mural by Sam3 on a neighboring building.

Studio Visits: Ekundayo

Coming up on June 11th, the talented Ekundayo will be opening his show “Joy Today Jeopardy Tomorrow” at Thinkspace Gallery. His distinctive and grotesque work reflects on the struggles and adversities of life as well as the joys and lessons that can come from fighting through the difficult times. Along with a new body of work, we think that you can expect some installations and murals as well. More photos from his studio after the jump…

Streets: Roa in New York

The unstoppable Roa has been painting up the Big Apple while he was in town for his show at Factory Fresh. We just recently saw pics of this completed piece, a perfect example of his anatomical street pieces, and wanted to share it with our readers.Take a more detailed look at how textured the surface was that the the mural was painted on after the jump…

Streets: Os Gemeos & Blu (Lisbon)

Since Os Gemeos was in town for their exhibition (covered) at the Lisbon’s Museu Colecção Berardo, it was a foregone conclusion that they would leave their mark inside and out. Here you can see them teaming up with another high-flying street act, the prolific Blu from Italy. Hopefully we’ll see more photos of the completed piece soon… Discuss Os Gemeos here. Discuss Blu here.

Studio Visits / Preview: Greg Simkins – “Inside the Outside” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) is set to open his show on June 5th at the Joshua Liner gallery, so AM took the opportunity to hang with the ever creative mastermind at his Torrance studio. The show “Inside the Outside” (teased) is just that – flipping our world as we know it upside down with a mind-spinning array of painted characters and stories that would impress any hardcore sci-fi or fantasy fan. In addition to Greg’s coveted paintings, he took the time to revisit his roots […]
