POW WOW ’14 & 1xRUN Prints & Show

The annual POW! WOW! art retreat in Hawaii starts this weekend and 1xRUN will be on site to work on a special show at Loft in Space / Fresh Cafe set to open on February 14th. They have also partnered with Pangea Seed, a local non profit, to exhibit prints from their archives and their new Sametan figure customized by over 30 artists. In addition, 1xRUN will be releasing a series of prints from participating 2014 POW! Streets: Gaia (Baltimore)

Last week, South West Baltimore saw a new mural go up from Gaia on McHenry Street honoring the late Nelson Mandela. Entitled Kurema, Kureba, Kwiga, the piece was painted in solidarity with the Colour Ikamva project in Rwanda and Martha Cooper’s (interviewed) Sowebo/Soweto documentation. The prolific Baltimore and Brooklyn-based Gaia currently has big installation showing at the Rice University Art Gallery. For this project, the young artist did a series of interviews with people working at the university as well as gathered some information about the history of Houston. Through this research, he created his impression of “Houston’s sprawling urban landscape and increasingly international demographic,” and turned it into reality at the university gallery.
