It looks like Wynwood Walls is kicking off things early this year because just after RETNA hit up his wall in Miami, ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast rolled into town to do their thing. Undoubtedly, this year’s event will be just as looked forward to as last year’s edition, with a nice list of artists worked up already. Last Friday, the C.A.V.E. Gallery and Brooklyn Street Art in collaboration with Thinkspace presented an exhibit titled 39 Stories: Street Art Saved My Life. AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. Exhibiting alongside Mars-1 (covered) and Miss Van (covered), Gaia took full advantage of the opportunity to show on his largest stage to date by transforming the Project Room at Jonathan Levine Gallery into dynamic visual feast. Back on the streets in preparation for an upcoming group show Succession, Gaia has gone big with his largest unsanctioned piece to date. In preparation for his newest exhibition, which opened last weekend, Gaia went to town on The Windy City with his intricate animal centric wheat paste creations. With well over ten pieces located in various Chicago neighborhoods, the street artist has created a virtual playground for local art fans. Preview: Armory Week ’11 – Rebaroque Artist Series Sound Wall @ Scope New York
