AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. Exhibiting alongside Mars-1 (covered) and Miss Van (covered), Gaia took full advantage of the opportunity to show on his largest stage to date by transforming the Project Room at Jonathan Levine Gallery into dynamic visual feast. Back on the streets in preparation for an upcoming group show Succession, Gaia has gone big with his largest unsanctioned piece to date. In preparation for his newest exhibition, which opened last weekend, Gaia went to town on The Windy City with his intricate animal centric wheat paste creations. With well over ten pieces located in various Chicago neighborhoods, the street artist has created a virtual playground for local art fans. A special project taking place at this year’s Scope New York art fair is the Rebaroque Artist Series Sound Wall, a collaborative audio/visual installation featuring Rebaroque sound panels—art and design objects created from vintage fabrics and frames that include speakers through which you can play sound or music from an iPod or other device. It looks like Mr. Gaia is getting things started down in Miami with this piece on 14th Street. The hybrid owl-human-rabbit looks similar to a piece he did for All City Block Party recently and has been layered on top of some Dick Chicken and Shark Toof (you can see this better after the jump…)
