Openings: Victor Reyes – “Misspelled” @ Robert Berman Gallery/E6

Letters - we’ve learned about them before we even enter kindergarten, practice writing them in school for years, and use them countless times everyday to communicate. They are vital to our lives, yet how many of us really take the time to examine, dissect, and improve upon their appearance? Even the most normally basic of forms want to be prettied up, admired, and told that they were beautiful and enriched your lives; show you things you’ve never considered before. Victor Reyes is acutely aware of [...]

Interviews: SABER

Known as one of the best graffiti writers of all-time, SABER can also be described as a pioneer, legend, hero, Guinness World Records holder, and activist. Most of all though, he is an artist. An artist in the true sense of the word. One with keen and insightful observations and expressions of the world he lives in, the beauty that surrounds him, and the injustices that affect him. He has dedicated his entire adult life to the work he believes in, often at great risk [...]

Streets: Pixadores attack mural by Os Gemeos, NUNCA, NINA, Finok, and Zefix

Proving that tensions between graffiti artists and street artists are not just a phenomena of the western world (see banksy vs. robbo), Pixacao artists in Sao Paulo have defaced a mural by Os Gemeos, NUNCA, NINA, Finok, and Zefix. They are probably angry that the mayor of Sao Paulo, after creating the project “Clean City” in 2006 (which erased much of the illegal graffiti) is using public funds for commissioning legal writers and famous street artists. This all at a time when the government is [...]

Streets: Below Las Vegas with Logan Hicks

Inspired by Matt O’Brien’s book “Beneath the Neon – Life and Death in the Las Vegas Tunnels”, Logan Hicks (interviewed) recently took an interesting look at the massive system of drainage tunnels underneath the city of sin. Portions of the more than 300 miles of subterranean passageways are covered in graffiti and the feel of the place kind of reminds us of the underground work of Brazilian street artist Zezao. More pics after the jump.

Video: Streetfiles – “Thank You” to Montana Colors

When Montana Colors heard that Streetfiles, one of the important graffiti webzines in Europe, was in danger of closing down because of lack of funds, they responded generously. In return, Streetfiles filmed this video as a special thank you to the spanish aerosol paint company for their help. Via Montana Colors.

Behind the Scenes: Saber x Modern Multiples – Flag Print

Many of you may remember the video that Saber produced for the “Organizing For America’s Health Care Reform Video Challenge” (if not, take a look after the jump). Although he was demonized by some of the media for “defacing” the American flag, anyone with a little common sense would see his painting as an “interpretation of the American flag being overwhelmed by the language of his personal struggle with our country’s system of medical care.” Battling epilepsy himself, the graffiti artist felt he had to [...]

Streets: “Watchmen” graffiti – Amped up fans or clever guerrilla marketing campaign?

The famous inquiry from the graphic novel turned movie “Watchmen” has been popping up in various cities throughout the world, including New York, Toronto, and across the pond in London. Having seen the “Who watches the watchmen?” tag scrawled on the sides of buildings, across payphones, and even on the back of a truck, we doubt that the writers received permission to put the work up. Is this the work of Comic-Con-going fans who can’t contain their excitement about tomorrow’s movie opening or is this [...]
