Preview: “Suggestivism” @ GCAC

Coming hot off the heels of Joe Sorren’s (featured) epic retrospective at the gallery, Suggestivism, a group exhibition curated by Nathan Spoor, opens this Saturday at CSUF Grand Central Art Center. It features over 50 different works (old and new) that embody Suggestivism, a term first used in the late nineteenth century describing an organic process of art making that suggests an ambiguous narrative. The exhibition features artists who illustrate ideas or subjects whose relationships point towards a loose and open narrative, constructed by the [...]

Openings: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Storyteller” @ Gallery 1988 (LA)

Last night at Gallery 1988 (LA), the man named Craola (Greg Simkins) once again showed there there were no limits to his imagination with another fantastic body of work that created fanciful environments for his beloved characters to play in. Aptly entitled “Storyteller”, the show reminded everyone that Greg is one of the most gifted artists out there in projecting his vision with a narrative full of detail, improvisation, and embellishment. The new collection of works, which we got a glimpse of in our studio [...]

Baby Tattooville ’09: Curious Art Sale

During each annual Baby Tattooville, artists produce exclusive artwork for an all-one-print that includes each and every piece.  The original artwork that is used for that print is available first to attendees of the event, then if any pieces are still available, the public will have a chance to buy.  The order in which those lucky BT-goers receive the opportunity to purchase is based on their ticket number (those who were the first to register get lower numbers).  It is a wonderful opportunity to skip [...]
