Basel Week Miami ’11: Pulse First Look

Yesterday, AM stopped by PULSE, one of the satellite fairs of Art Basel Week Miami, and we were greeted by a pretty solid selection of art work from various artists and their galleries (after the fixed a lighting issue). Before focusing in a on a few things, enjoy this selection of photos of pieces that caught our eyes as we strolled through the compound housing the fair. More photos after the jump…

Previews: PULSE Los Angeles ’11 – David B. Smith

After previewing three booths (here, here, and here) that we are looking forward to later today at the PULSE art fair, we have one final suggestion for those attending. Head over to check out the offerings from David B. Smith as he will be bringing works from Kris Lewis, Gregory Euclide, and Paul Jacobsen. The expressive new works from Lewis, unique three-dimensional paintings from Euclide, and hyper-realistic renderings from Jacobsen should round out your fair-going experience nicely. More preview images after the jump…

Releases: ‘Untitled’ / Bon Iver album art by Gregory Euclide

If you previously have had the pleasure of seeing Minnesota artist Gregory Euclide’s work in person, then you will surely attest to what a immersive experience his multi-dimensional mixed media work can be. David B Smith Gallery, who represents his work in Denver, have just published a limited edition giclee print – titled Untitled. You may be wondering how one of Euclide’s works would translate into an essentially flat medium, but the original image was created with 2-dimensional representation in mind as it features as cover […]

Further adding weight to the significance and diversity of Art Basel Miami Beach, David B. Smith Gallery will bring a solo exhibition of new work from mixed-media sculptor Gregory Euclide to the venerable PULSE Art Fair. Marking the sixth edition for the well-known contemporary art event, the new body of work will be exhibited as part of the IMPULSE section of the fair, where a single emerging artist will be awarded the PULSE Prize for their excellence. Euclide’s unique brand of assemblage-based sculpting utilizes an […]

Preview: Gregory Euclide – “What Was Still in the Pause of My Advance” @ Merry Karnowsky

Opening on April 10th at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will be Gregory Euclide’s new show “What Was Still in the Pause of My Advance”. We saw a fantastic piece from Euclide at the Grammy show earlier this year and can attest to the complex textural and sculptural components to this paintings. He definitely pushes the envelope in terms of blending 2D and 3D elements smoothly, even bulging out some of the “glass” that encloses some of his paintings to accommodate some of […]

Armory Week ’10: Scope New York

We attended the preview of Scope New York last Wednesday and visited the fair again on Saturday, and with the exception of stand-out booths by Anonymous, David B. Smith and newcomers Jackie Paper, found the fair to be somewhat disappointing overall. The show seemed small, not just relative to the enormous size of this year’s Armory Show, but compared with this year’s Scope Miami or last year’s Scope NY. And the overall selection and quality seemed to be down as well, with not a lot […]

Preview: David B. Smith Gallery @ Scope NY 2010

One such gallery is our mile-high friends from David B. Smith Gallery, who were nice enough to give us a sneak peak at what they’ll be showing this year, including stunning pieces by Gregory Euclide, Christina Empedocles, Jason Theilke, Kristen Schiele and Jud Bergeron. The VIP preview for Scope NY 2010 opens later today, and AM will certainly […]
