Openings: Matt Leines – “These Songs Are True” @ Guerrero Gallery

Guerrero Gallery held it down with a cool series of work from Matt Leines that showed in their space starting last week. Opening along side Alex Lukas (covered), Matt’s latest show “These Songs Are True” took us to his imagined world where cultural elements are mixed with pseudo historical references to create a society of crazy human-esqe characters. Colorful masks or faces stare back at you with geometric shapes and colors forming fascinating environments. Check it out after the jump.

Alex Lukas and Matt Leines are about to show at Guerrero Gallery this weekend, May 8th, and both artists look to be showing some new direction. With Alex we were looking forward to seeing urban environments which are often used to depict a not so distant future where a disaster has overtaken mankind. Last Saturday night saw the grand opening of San Francisco’s newest and very highly anticipated art space, Guerrero Gallery (previewed). Founded by Andres Guerrero, artist (covered) and former partner/owner of White Walls, Guerrero Gallery is looking to break new and exciting ground in the Mission district and judging by opening, is off to a great start. The San Francisco art scene is about to gain a fresh face as our friend Andres Guerrero will be opening up a new haven for artists to exhibit in.
