We first met Bay Area graffiti artist, designer, and illustrator Aaron De La Cruz at POW WOW earlier this year where he painted wall murals utilizing his minimalistic and signature patterns. Long Walk Home sees him return to the scene of the crime, Loft in Space, with more of his work, this time in the form of a solo exhibition. Loft In Space, the site of this year’s (covered) and next year’s POW WOW, was recently converted into a giant coloring book by gallery director Jasper Wong. The very busy and versatile designer, artist, illustrator, and curator is also one of the co-owners of Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong, site of an Arrested Motion group show at the end of next month. Hawaii-based graffiti writer Prime just had an opening entitled Not For Sale at Honolulu’s Loft In Space. You may remember his gorgeous peacock mural at this year’s Pow Wow back in February. This time, he exhibited a fresh set of large works including a crisply painted ride. As always Prime’s dope images aren’t just skin deep, his style masks a thoughtful view into the social and artistic lives on the islands of Hawaii. The weeks of setup for the POW WOW ’11 in Honolulu culminated in blowout showcase bringing together talent from different parts of the world. People all over Hawaii came to take part in the celebration where performance, photography, graffiti, and fine art intersected.
