Streets: Life Is Beautiful 2019 (Las Vegas)

This year’s Life Is Beautiful arts and music festival (also see 2016, 2015, and 2014) once again collaborated with JUSTKIDS / Charlotte Dutoit on bringing more public art to downtown Las Vegas. Streets: Hot Tea (Los Angeles)

A couple nights ago, under the cover of darkness, Hot Tea and a few friends placed one of his signature installations over the pedestrian bridge that spans the PCH close to Santa Monica Blvd. and Broadway. Yesterday, AM had the opportunity to stop by the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) for what’s shaping up to be an epic exhibition. Put on in collaboration by Thinkspace Gallery, the people behind POW! WOW!, and LBMA, the main attraction of Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape are the on site installations and murals. Probably most original and unique artist of this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) was the Minneapolis-based HotTea. Known for his yarn installations on fences, he found a very original and harmless way of expressing himself on the streets. He created this technique after getting in trouble for doing graffiti but still wanting to be able to continue bombing, but not get in trouble. Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. Back in July, Converse & Foot Locker invited four artists to Berlin to work on a project featuring street installations. Expertly curated to include artists who work with similar mediums, the resulting Threads documentary follows Hottea, Moneyless, Spidertag, and Aimee Dymond as they strung, spread, tied, and hung yarn & thread in complex patterns and shapes all in colors of the new Converse Padded Collar.

Since the last AM London Instagram Roundup, quite a bit has being going on. First up, it was great to see Mobstr’s newly painted shutters with the words “Huh?” repeated in black and white to make up one giant “Huh?” Also, the side door to Stolen Space Gallery had a wonderful make over by Word to Mother, very nice.
