AM was at Tony’s Gallery in Shoreditch on Thursday to see the first UK solo show by Olek (set-up and teaser photos here). The New York-based artist has been making the most of her extended London visit, transforming the ground floor of the gallery into a domestic setting filled with crocheted furniture and other household items. Olek is launching her first UK solo show this evening at Tony’s Gallery in East London. The wall-to-floor installation recreates living quarters, complete with bed, tables, picture frames and other domestic objects — all covered in brightly-coloured crochet. AM has been keeping track of progress over the last few weeks and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished result. Openings: Daniel Arsham – “the fall, the ball, and the wall” @ OHWOW

Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. On Tuesday, The Standard Hotel in Hollywood frequent collaborator Tim Biskup (featured) for the closing of his most recent installation titled Gravity’s Migraine. We had recently posted some pics of the glass vitrine space and front lobby, but went back to catch the end of the feature and to get a firsthand look with Tim. As part of her Look Now, See Forever exhibition (more on this later) that opened last month at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Australia, Yayoi Kusama included an immersive installation piece that encompass an entire room dubbed The Obliteration Room. What began as a completely whited-out setting (furniture included), ended up covered by thousands of her signature dots – aided by placement of colorful stickers by children who visited the exhibition over the course of two weeks. After returning from Miami and the festivities of Art Basel Week, Tim Biskup (featured) headed over to The Standard Hotel in Hollywood to work on a new project. For his second stint as the designer of the installation at the glass vitrine space (see his first here) behind the front desk, Tim decided to utilize his signature pixelated motif in the background wall and foreground glass as well as some abstract twining hangings scattered about the hotel lobby all centered on the theme of an upside [...]

While AM is cavorting artists, fellow bloggers, and industry friends at Art Basel Miami Week, the rest of the art world is not coming to a complete standstill. For example, later tonight, Dec. 1st, across the pond at Onethirty3, Hush (interviewed) will be unveiling a new installation at a new show that will include videos and photographs that document the first year of the gallery and project space. AM was recently onsite to bring you Faile breaking ground at the prominent Houston & Bowery mural (before they headed to London for their solo). As you saw in Part I, the basic foundation of the work was a ginormous collage featuring much of the classic imagery created by the collective (both new & old).
