So, it looks like Phlegm has been hard at work at something epic that will open to the public soon in the UK. Mausoleum of the Giants in the street artist’s home base of Sheffield will feature large-scale sculptural installations in an abandoned factory, populating the halls and rooms with creatures and elements of his distinct imagery. One of the installations that grabbed the most attention this year at the Amsterdam Light Festival was a piece by artist Gali May Lucas (Design Bridge). Created with the help of sculptor Karoline Hinz, Absorbed By Light comments on our society’s increasing addiction to our mobile devices. Last week in Bangkok, Felipe Pantone unveiled an immersive installation at the Siam Center entitled W3-DIMENSIONAL Park. For his first showing in Thailand, the Argentinian-Spanish artist created a sculptural representation of his special form of glitch effects and optical art that transports viewers into the digital world. The title of the piece references the three dimensional aspect of the World Wide Web (divs, tables, and iframes) and includes four original pieces that are part of some recent projects. As we mentioned a couple days ago, the Mickey: The True Original Exhibition has opened in New York, celebrating the 90th birthday of one of the most iconic cartoon characters in history. The show is filled with photo-ops, including an amazing piece (seen above) from Daniel Arsham inspired by Thru the Mirror, a Mickey Mouse cartoon short film from 1936 and a Mickey Mouse-themed Cosmic Cavern from Kenny Scharf.
