Tomorrow, March 29th, at the Londonewcastle Project Space, a special one night only showing of an installation from INSA will be opening its doors to the public. As you can see from the photos above (by Ian Cox), the experience will prove to be immersive and somewhat disconcerting for the viewer as the walls, ceiling, and floor are wrapped with some of the UK-based artist’s signature imagery. Another show we visited in Culver City on Saturday night was Jim Houser’s showing at LeBasse Projects. Featuring meticulously constructed installations of his paintings and sculptural items, As Quiet As Itʼs Kept put on display the Philly artist’s signature patchwork of favorite items, creatures, words, symbols that for this exhibition was inspired by the impact of fatherhood and explores and the new responsibilities faced. Teaser: Jim Houser – “As Quiet As Itʼs Kept” @ LeBasse Projects (Culver City)

We last had the pleasure of seeing one of Jim Houser’s installations about a year back at last year’s Armory Week in New York. Now, as it was back then, we are still intrigued by the Philadelphia-based artist’s use of his own brand of symbology and visual language. Fans in Los Angeles will get the opportunity to witness for themselves on Saturday night, March 10th, as Houser (you can see a glimpse of him setting up above) will be opening his As Quiet As Itʼs Kept exhibition […]

AM was at Tony’s Gallery in Shoreditch on Thursday to see the first UK solo show by Olek (set-up and teaser photos here). The New York-based artist has been making the most of her extended London visit, transforming the ground floor of the gallery into a domestic setting filled with crocheted furniture and other household items. Everything but the entrance area, the ceiling, and a couple of plants has been given a second skin. The combination of brightly-coloured yarn and Olek’s signature camouflage pattern means […]

Closings: Tim Biskup – “Gravity’s Migraine” @ The Standard (Hollywood)

On Tuesday, The Standard Hotel in Hollywood frequent collaborator Tim Biskup (featured) for the closing of his most recent installation titled Gravity’s Migraine. We had recently posted some pics of the glass vitrine space and front lobby, but went back to catch the end of the feature and to get a firsthand look with Tim. The see through cube which sits behind the hotel’s reception desk featured a woman inside the space which brings to the forefront issues of voyeurism and  the lack of privacy. However, Biskup […]

As part of her Look Now, See Forever exhibition (more on this later) that opened last month at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Australia, Yayoi Kusama included an immersive installation piece that encompass an entire room dubbed The Obliteration Room. What began as a completely whited-out setting (furniture included), ended up covered by thousands of her signature dots – aided by placement of colorful stickers by children who visited the exhibition over the course of two weeks. Before and after pics after the jump…
