Preview/Interviews: Dan May @ Copro Nason

Dan May’s show “Slow Collison” opens this Saturday, February 7th at Copro Nason.  His lush environments and monsters are as eye catching now as they were when we first saw his work on flickr several years ago.  Of course, his work has evolved and become more rich with fantastic compositiona and “story-telling.”  Dan takes some time to answer some questions for us about his current show as well as plans for the rest of 2009.  Check the interview and some preview pics after the jump.

Preview/Interviews: Anthony Lister @ Fifty24SF

“Magic Tricks” is the latest solo exhibition from Australian-born painter and street artist Anthony Lister. His two-person show with Craola (previewed/interviewed) opens February 5th at Fifty24SF. Lister’s latest body of work veers away from his abstracted figural imagery and focuses on paintings derived from images found in his recent book, “Tales of White Trash Prophecy.” Read about this and more in the rest of our interview, after the jump.

Preview/Interviews: Craola @ Fifty24SF

Greg Simkins, or as he is popularly known, Craola (something he kept from his graffiti days) is opening his first show of 2009 at Fifty24SF on February 5th. His show “Seeing Things” (teased) expands on the pseudo still life format he has been working on, and the fact there is something alive in the arrangement that makes you take a second look. Brandt Peter’s show “Cackle Factory” (teased) opens next week on Tuesday, February 3rd at Gallery 1988 LA. Interviews: James “Dalek” Marshall

James Marshall, aka Dalek, is known for brightly colored, superflat paintings consisting of his signature Space Monkeys. But since his 2007 show at New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery, entitled Desperate, Rejected and Angry, the military brat and once graffiti artist has been pushing the boundaries of his style, becoming more and more geometric and abstract. Gary “Danger” Baseman has landed in Tel-Aviv in preparation for the January 8th opening of his latest solo exhibition at Israel’s Urbanix Gallery. (previously teased). What do you get when one of the biggest collectors of this genre, Mark Parker (Nike), fully funds an artist like Scott Radke to create a commission? A masterpiece! Check out this complex set of sculptures by Radke done over a 4 month period.
